Sixties Fancy Dress - is there any way I can 'flip out' my hair myself?

Or is it a hairdresser job? I suppose it's no different to having it put up normally for a ball or something, but I think I might feel a bit daft asking for it...

I don't own curlers or straighteners (I blow dry it straight or rag it overnight for curls).

From looking at pictures (Mary Tyler Moore, or Samantha from Bewitched) I'm guessing it's either backcombed or set with rollers on the top, and the the bottoms are maybe tonged to flip them outwards? I have looked at youtube, but none seem to look quite how I'm thinking!

Try a wig?

I got this one from ebay when we had a 60's murder mystery night. Got a mid blonde one with Fringe to be "Marianne Faithless" - probably a bit too long but there are more on ebay if you look.

Or look on Youtube for a tutorial?

But f your hair is long enough then try a hairdresser? Maybe a mobile one who can come to your house so you don't have to walk out of the shop all "done"

If I dry my hair so that it curls under (long bob), I can then turn the under curl into an outer one if that makes sense.

I would just dry it under, backcomb the top and then flip the curl - suppose you would need hairspray or something (fairly clueless as I don't use anything). Rollers would make a great curl which I could flip the opposite way.
