Please help a student - plus size male fashion for your DH

Hi,

I'm a third-year student from London College of Fashion, for my final project I am looking into writing a portfolio of work or potentially creating a website catered to helping and opening a discussion for men who shop in the plus size fashion market.

I'm currently researching into this sector and wondered if you could help with any experiences your DH may have had:

Have you had any struggles shopping for your size? In particular, what?
Do you mainly shop online or the high-street? What brands specifically?
Do you find there is a stigma attached to plus sized men in the media?
Would you read a website or body of work catered specifically to helping you with plus size fashion?
Do you feel overshadowed by plus sized women in the media?

I'd really appreciate any help you can give,
Thanks!

My DH is plus sized. The main problem with him buying clothes is that his chest and belly measurement are the same so when he buys clothes his beer belly sticks out. I am a rather similarly shaped woman but can buy clothes that disguise me much better.

My dh goes between plus size and 'normal'. He's very broad and most clothing comes to short on his back. There is no where near enough decent plus size fashion for men. I only actually know of one plus size male shop in the high street so I'm guessing most men must shop online. Most female clothes shops have a plus size section now but I'm not sure mens do. Good luck with your work.

My son is plus size. He gets most of his clothes from Jacamo, and quite likes some of the Joe Brown's range. But there's very little else available, particularly in his ( student) price range. High & Mighty is usually way too expensive. Premier Man is OK for things like plain tshirts, but aimed at an older market. He only shops online, I don't know of any shops that do his size ( except occasionally Asda) but he doesn't like clothes shopping anyway, probably because its quite traumatic and makes him feel shit about himself.
A lot of the online stuff is aimed at older men, though this year for some reason it seems to have slightly easier to find things he likes. None of the models look at all plus size, though some of them are rugby player build.

I would certainly read a website/body of work about plus size fashion for him, but don't know if he would, though he may check out links for specific garments if I forwarded them to him.

There is definitely a stigma, and its quite open, he's often had random strangers saying nasty things to him in the street, to the extent that for a while he didn't like going out.

My Mum is also plus size, and its much easier for her to find clothes on the high street, and there's a bigger selection online.

Hope that helps.

As a fashion student, it would be great if you would design clothes for bigger men! Sleeves being too long is often an issue ( even though he is over 6 foot tall, so reasonably long arms) and the other issue is light plain colours are not necessarily flattering on big people! Do let me know if we can give you any more info, this is a subject close to my heart!

One of my sons is very plus size, 4XL, and Jacamo is one of the few places he can find clothes.
There is literally nothing on the high street at all.
He likes that Jacamo have a "long" option for some of their shirts and t-shirts - he is over 6 foot, with a long body and shorter legs, so really needs a long fitting, particularly as he is very conscious of showing his belly if he reaches up.
Price is an issue- he is working now but until recently he was a student.
Another one of my sons is XXL, which means he can find clothes relatively easily; H & M do XXL in many of their ranges, as do supermarkets.
All my boys are tall as well, so body length of shirts and tshirts is an issue for all of them. This is the main reason for returning clothes for us.
