Is there such a thing as a waterproof jacket that won't make me look like I'm off rambling?

My faux furs and leather jackets aren't cutting it in the pissing rain. I need something for the school run. But I don't want a really outdoorsy looking thing.

The best I can find is the Regatta

Regatta Nightsky but it's just not very me.

Does such a thing exist?

Have found the coat on Amazon for £30. Think I'm gonna choke down my vanity and buy it. I got bloody drenched this morning in a non waterproof parka.

You'll look more like someone from Borgen in these.

They are a bit outdoorsy, but stylish with it. Not cheap but worth it IMO. You can get them on Amazon.

Also along similar lines, Trespass; I have one of their softshell jackets and it's toasty.

The coats on both those sites look the same as the Regatta one to me Only. Sensible, practical, slightly frumpy.

There's no way I'm spending a fortune on something so unglamorous Grin.

I just Googled and Joules have some that look quite nicely cut, and in assorted colours beyond mud and moss.

Trespass and Ilse J are much more stylish than the one you linked, IMO. It's the cut and the details.

But if you don't want anything even vaguely outdoorsy, how about a trench/mac instead? I assume you can get rainproof ones.

There are some waterproof parkas (kind of waxed) in Tesco and Sainsbo.

Check out TK Maxx. I had just the same problem, and found an SOS Jensen waterproof parka there for £60, down from £325 or so. Waterproof, and rather stylish, though I say so myself.

Imo most regatta type waterproofs look awful. I know you said nothing too outdoorsy but a good Barbour wax parka looks great and keeps off the rain.

Barbour jackets are ridiculously expensive. Unless you are stewarding a pony club event or a Russian oligarch trying to fit in at a Highland games, completely over the top for just walking to school in the rain.

I've got a Hellweather coat from Seasalt and its good. Its lightweight and breathable. You can add as many layers underneath it as you want.

Not cheap, but will last me a fair while...

Okay camping, I will take my over the top taste (got one years ago and it is still serving me well - rather than a regatta waterproof which looked tatty after one year) and offer of opinion and never darken your doorstep again. Strikes me as a little pointless to buy a coat for one purpose only. Silly me for offering an alternative opinion and assuming that one could possibly wear a coat for more than one purpose.

I'm not a Barbour kinda gal I'm afraid. They're too grown up (and expensive).
I just want something cheap but effective that I can throw on to walk to school and to walk the dog. I would never wear this kind of coat as part of a nice outfit.

I have three a Barbour coat. One is a toasty warm furry hooded down filled, one is waxed and the third is a spring/Autumn lighter weight jacket. Smart enough to wear to work and fab on non-work days for the half hour walk to school and preschool. I do also have a few other costs from the 'waterproof bum covering school run coat' three from a few years ago when we all went Merrel mad ??. Many years of walking school runs I thought was worth investing in good quality coats and we have a Barbour outlet nearby. I do live in Somerset but don't need them for hunting or shooting just to keep warm and dry!!

Think it looks alright and about as stylish as a rain coat is ever likely to get.
