Who do you think do the best clothing, shoes, bags, etc in terms of quality and class. Price no object. I'm thinking of 'aristocrats', WAGs etc. People who can really afford things like holidays in Mustique etc.

Just wondering how the other half live, I suppose. I imagine someone born to it would find Harrods vulgar , while people who aspire to it, well, maybe wouldn't?

And where do they go to furnish their houses? If you had millions, or billions, where would you get your wardrobe, accoutrements, and so on. Is there a particular type of cutlery such that you are 'nobody' if you don't own a set? Or special cushions? "Oh, we always get our x from X dear, do you know nothng?"

OMG!!! You can get suspender belts there! I used to wear them all the time - god knows why, tights had been around a long time I just eschewed them (how pretentious was I? ). Thank you, Strawberry, that's brilliant!

Oh dear, and now I'm remembering how much easier it was to get stockings on than it is tights.....

Yeah I have too many of their suspender belts. I like to kid myself into thinking I'm a sophisticated suspender belt wearer (and I think DH would like to think so too) but I've worn maybe two? Tights are much better.

Can't think what else is aspirational for the mega rich to be honest. I've always imagined if I were mega rich I'd probably want to eat fish and chips in the park and totally ignore all the fancy things I could buy.

Are you researching new and old money? That's the usual saying isn't it? In my experience old money doesn't care who you are, what you drive or what you wear whereas new money does - massive generalisation there though.

Well, in a way. I am looking at shopping habits.

Most of the less rich are the old money people, so it is slightly harder to find where they go as they are not so interested in diamond studded thingamajigs because they've had all that for generations and certainly wouldn't want a new one, that would be frightfully infra dig. However, they do still need kettles or toasters from time to time, unless there's a firm somewhere which makes kettles that last for a hundred years.....

I suppose I should look at Purveyors to Royalty as a starting point.

All my properly posh friends buy their clothes in charity shops. They hate spending money.

There was a specialist fishing shop on?Jermyn St I seem to recall for that kind of outerwear.

Also Crew, Joules, Musto, duBarry boots for outdoor, sailing, dog-walking type stuff.

But in general I don't think it's the "done thing" for aristos to buy loads of designer clothes - maybe a particular outfit for weddings/christenings/races/Henley etc.

We don't go places to furnish our homes, my love. We just borrow things from one of the other homes. Buying furniture is for the Middle classes. One assumes.
