How often?

I posted a thread not long ago about needing to make a change. One of the things I decided was my skincare routine, in 33 I have to admit to being a bit lax and it's left my skin looking a bit tired and worn and a few lines are not starting to appear around my eyes.

I have read through the board and seen lots of recommendations and decided to give the hot cloth cleansing and glycolic peel ago (not sure my spelling is correct ).

My question is how often do I use it are they nightly things to do or weekly? Apart from looking tired and dull and the odd line around my eyes my skin is pretty much normal albeit slightly sensitive and I have been luck so far only to have suffered the odd spot if that makes any difference.

I don't know about glycolic peels, but I do hot cloth cleansing every evening. I use Origins skin cleansing oil and remove with a very warm flannel - but I've heard the Eve Lom/Liz Earle specific hot cloth cleansers are good too. If you have the time and inclination (which I rarely do!), I've heard that cleansing twice is best, if you wear make-up. First cleanse is to get rid of make-up and second is to really cleanse the skin and get rid of any residue. I love my oil routine and it's made a big difference to my skin texture. I used to get small bumps under the surface and skin used to look dull, but now it's very smooth. Let us know how you get on! X

IMO the frequency of cleansing depends on how much make up you use. I don't wear much at all so I cleanse twice a day. Some people who wear make up like to cleanse twice in the evening. Once with a cleanser suited to removing make-up and once with another less full-on version. Some don't bother.

Re peels: When starting any peeling regime, the usual advice is to start with a milder form of the acid once a week and see how you get on.

Thank you Smile .

I don't wear much make up at the minute, I had a consultation with the lady at the no7 counter and she has suggested some colours so I'm experimenting with the suggested colours at the weekend until I'm a bit more confident.

Will definitely try the olive oil we have some in I use it to remove cradle cap from ds4 and I'm sure he won't mind sharing.

I will look into the peels a bit more then and see how the oil cleansing goes first and into the aloe gel. Having the time to cleanse more then once in an evening might be a bit of an issue at the minute mornings are a major rush (6 dcs to sort and chase after) and I tend to do the same at night out of habit but I am trying to take a bit more time out for me and do tries to give it me when he is here.

Will try the oil tonight and will report back Smile thank you.

I wear light make up daily and so I use micellar water to remove my make up before hot cloth cleansing (I use a homemade oil cleanser, but same principle). I use acid toner pads twice a day, but started on once a day in the evening at first. The ones I use are really mild though - I might keep using them in the morning and get something more serious for evening at some stage. Skincare is hard work nowadays, isn't it?!

Definitely back when I was taught it it was a bar of soap and water and Anne french cleanser I carried it on until I couldn't find Anne french anymore and have just stuck to soap and water since but it doesn't do anything for my skin at all.

Soap and water is so drying, and does nothing for helping skin that's getting more mature. But if you like a foaming and rinsing thing, there are some good options (I quite like the nip + fab foaming cleanser, which you can get from boots). I tend to use that in the shower in the morning, then follow up with REN day cream.

Will have a look at them thank you Smile

I personally like acid toning but wouldn't do it more than 2-3 times a week as the process is drying. Long term strong acid use can also be damaging I have been told. It exposes too much skin which is then more sensitive to the sun and elements.

definatlylosingmysanity · 05/10/2015 16:45

Tried the oil cleansing it felt a bit weird at first but my skin did feel softer afterwards bit I didn't notice if my skin looked brighter.

Sorry I meant to update this morning but been on a major excitement mode all day Smile .

I'd keep going with it for a couple of weeks and then decide if it's for you. If you wanted to give it a really good go, you could take before and after photos!

I've taken a before photo just incase I ever feel lazy once I have found what works for my skin just to remind me what my skin is like if I don't out the care into it. Also I have an operation coming up soon I'm going for my pre op on Friday and I wanted a pic of my face before I had it to compare afterwards.

Odfod I have all them in my kitchen so will try brewing it up tonight Smile i have been worried a bit about toner as my skin can become sensitive at times and when it does I have problems with my skin being sore for a few days afterwards.

I decided when I made changes to myself id commit to try each product/item of clothing and routine for a minimum of 2 months just to give me time to see any changes/feel comfortable and gt into the habit of things.

Also, and I'm probably stating the obvious, but enough sleep and lots of water and healthy food will make the biggest difference to your skin.

definatlylosingmysanity · 06/10/2015 16:43

I do drink water and try and eat healthy but the sleep can be a problem I have a son who has sleep issues.
