Anyone do their own roots ?

I usually get someone to apply my regrowth tint at home between salon appointments, however, there are occasions when I will have to do it myself. I get a bit mixed up with my left and right when using a mirror behind. Does anyone successfully do their own roots.Any tips?

My grey is concentrated around the front half of my head fortunately(?), so I usually do it myself. I use a comb to draw a parting through, brush the dye on both sides of the parting, draw another parting alongside it (1/2 - 1 inch ish), paint both sides of the parting, draw another parting, etc until it's all done. I sometimes double check by drawing test partings to make sure I used enough dye to saturate the hair, but not always.

It's worked ok so far but I do enlist DP to check every few times that I haven't missed anything and he does sometimes help. It depends where your grey is really, if you can actually see what you're doing, it's pretty straightforward.

I paint on the worst bits I can see, and then enlist DH for the back. After ten mins I massage it about to ensure coverage
Leave it on for 10 mins longer than the box says
I then visit hairdressers twice a year for a root and highlights job as this is so pricey

Thank you both. I need to do my entire head. I will have to ask DH to do the back and then massage all over the scalp carefully as I have highlights/lowlights so that complicates things.

I have highlights but embrace the trashy grown up look! Good luck

I bought a mixing bowl -you know the ones the hairdresser uses. I got it in Primark and was about two pounds! They are so much easier to use than the bottle thing you get in the kits.

There are two brushes so I use the handle of one to part my hair and the other to apply the dye.

I'm saving a fortune as my roots needs doing every 4 weeks.

Hi BakeOffcake. I have the proper bowl and brushes and the colour from the wholesalers. Its just the logistics of applying something at the back of my head in a mirror image ! Oh well, there's always a first time and a cack handed hubby.

I do the roots, rummage around the back of my head then after 15 mins comb the rest through my hair with a thick comb to blend it in. Seems to work ok.
