Leather jacket... Which colour

After years of wanting a leather jacket I've finally decided to buy one. I'm not sure what colour though... I think I can look washed out in black but black is much more classic. I've seen this one in Zara - does it look like a style that I could wear for years to come? I'm big busted so intend to wear it open. I'd need a massive size if I wanted to wear it done up

I like it - looks like a good style to wear open and pretty timeless. The colour will soften with age too and you will probably always have the colour of your top/scarf etc against your face if you wear it open. Black goes with everything - get it! Grin

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 02/10/2015 17:17

Wearing a scarf will stop you looking washed out, as it will be against your face ...

ItsAllGoodMan · 02/10/2015 17:25

I actually thought I'd linked to the taupe version of the jacket! Still can't decide. Black probably more versatile as you say...

I don't wear black at all, just doesn't suit me. I find tan just as versatile.

Love the style, it won't date.

Floisme · 02/10/2015 17:35

BIack isn't versatile if it doesn't suit you! What's the point of spending a lot of money on something if you have to wear it with a scarf for it to look ok?

Doobigetta · 02/10/2015 17:38

I've seen some lovely burgundy ones around, would that work for you?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/10/2015 17:51

They look silly fastened, anyway.

I have black, grey and brown. Love them all! It took me a long time to find a black one that didn't make me feel like an aging goth though.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/10/2015 17:51

I have a lovely one in a dark, distressed red, which I love

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/10/2015 17:52

The taupe looks nice but I'd worry about it getting dirty quickly.

ItsAllGoodMan · 02/10/2015 17:55

Would be interested in links to other colours. Like the sound of burgundy and dark red. I have a tan brown one I bought in tk maxx really cheaply and I like the colour but the sleeves are far too long on me

I'm not sure where mine came from, it was a present and we don't live in the uk, I think my husband bought it in Spain, sorry

AyeAmarok · 02/10/2015 19:28

You could get the sleeves taken up on the tan jacket you like? Good tailors will do it.

fiorentina · 02/10/2015 20:08

Mint Velvet have some nice mid grey ones that may be worth a look, less harsh than black but very adaptable as a colour.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/10/2015 22:01

My grey one is MV. It is a thing of beauty.

BritabroadinAsia · 03/10/2015 06:06

Another grey Mint Velvet owner here. I prefer it to black, and have had lots of wear from it since getting it a couple of years ago.

AyeAmarok · 03/10/2015 09:40

Oh grey is a great colour for a leather jacket! Goes with everything but less harsh.

I used to want a grey one, but I'd forgotten until this thread. Back on the hunt I go!

Hopefully · 03/10/2015 10:23

Grey is a great compromise, more likely to be flattering on the majority of skin tones than black, or very very dark brown. Tan is a great classic but I always find it a fraction harder to match with stuff (but that might just be my wardrobe). I am currently lusting after the boda skins ones.

Twinklestein · 03/10/2015 12:58

I really like the shape of the Zara one and from a fellow big-buster the overlap isn't too big which will be flattering. But I understand your feelings about black and I don't like the grey. (Mini cab drivers in the 80s always wore grey blouson leather jackets & I can't delete the image).

I would check out Muubaa on ebay - they're £300+ in the shops, but you can pick them up new on ebay for under £100. The leather is very soft, they're cut really well.

They do lots of different colours.

Personally I've got a brown, burgundy, light tan, turquoise, red & a nude/powder colour.

I got some of mine in a Vente Privee sale - about £70 quid each I think.

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:19

Remus I am still grieving missing out on that fabulous charcoal one you've got. Or I think it's you, anyway. Have a black one that's very similar but grey would have been just perfect, as someone, may have been you, said, not so harsh and just as versatile.

I've got a black one and a stone blue one. Hope to get a tan one next. But I reckon if I was only going to have one I'd try to find a charcoal or distressed black one. I do think black can be terribly harsh especially if one is no longer a young thing.

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:20

Oh and just to answer the actual question in the OP, I actually do really like that taupe colour. Maybe a bit more interesting than black?

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:21

Gah really want a taupe one now! Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2015 17:27

Holger - this one is mine. And this is my black one which I think I love even more than the MV one tbh.

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:37

Yep that's the one I was thinking of. I've got a very similar black one from the following season but I much prefer the subtle styling of yours. Sigh.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2015 17:38

It's v nice, yes, BUT, if any consolation, the leather seems to be rubbing on the shoulders very quickly.

HolgerDanske · 03/10/2015 17:39

Ohhhh that's a lovely one too, little longer in the body which I really like and I also like the quilting very much. Another one for me to covet Grin
