Dehydrated skin - which serum and moisturiser do you use?

I'm currently using Superdrug Simply Hydrating Serum which costs about ?3 a bottle and is rather marvellous. It does everything you want a serum to do for dehydrated skin - plumping, smoothing, hydrating, making skin feel like its had a good drink. I actually prefer it to the Vichy Aqualia serum that Sali Hughes raves about.

I use the moisturiser from the same range - Aqua Hydrating SPF 15 Day Cream and I like it a lot, although it could possibly be a bit richer. It is impossible to find in shops although is always available on the website. Superdrug really need to sort out their distribution.

I am just curious about what other people use to treat dehydration (fine lines, dullness, tightness). I may be persuaded to up my game a bit for the winter. Thanks Smile

Personally I find Nivea and Astal greasy. Also Astral contains liquid paraffin and petrolatum, and Nivea contains parabens & propylene glycol.

I don't use products containing those, personally. There are other rich thick hydrating creams without the undesirable chemicals (I mentioned a couple in my previous post).

I forgot to recommend Logona Age Protection Moisture Treatment which is amazing.

It seems expensive for 2 sachets, but each sachet contains enough for 4 treatments, so you're getting 8 in total.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 01/10/2015 13:59

Estee Lauder ANR serum, and Elemis marine cream. Plus Clarins Blue Orchid oil from September to April.

Glasspumpkin · 01/10/2015 22:19

sodder forgot to add my favourite cleanser for makeup which is cliniques take the day off balm.

Floisme · 01/10/2015 22:22

Sensitivity is so weird - Nivea blue pot is one of the few moisturisers I can tolerate yet just looking a tub of Astral makes my face itch.

WaggleBee · 02/10/2015 03:26

I'm blessed with acne prone skin which is also dehydrated at the moment due to illness. Marv. Hmm
So I'm watching with interest, desperate for a hydrating moisturiser or serum. Vichy Aqualia, EL ANR, Hydraluron, and Trilogy Rosehip oil have all caused spots. Plus anything with glycolic acid in it or shea butter. Starting to think my choice is spotty or dried up.

Definitely trying the Superdrug serum. Can't go wrong for that price really.

AngieWhats · 02/10/2015 14:33

I might try that Superdrug one, the.

I use Aldi Lacura serum, the yellow one in a glass bottle. It does the trick and is cheap as chips, but smells horrid.

AngieWhats · 02/10/2015 14:34

*then!

Kennington · 02/10/2015 19:26

Wagglebee you sound like me! Have you tried hylamide?
Grapseed oil is good round the eyes
Unfortunately I cannot do SPF over 15 either but that is another discussion

Coastingit · 02/10/2015 20:25

I'd happily spend £££ and avoid yuk sounding ingredients. But the truth is that nothing works as well for me as Nivea blue pot, whatever nasties it might have in it my skin loves it! I use salycilic products often and glycolic sometimes. I can't tolerate cleansing oils or anything heavily perfumed, I double cleanse just with Cetaphil or a Clearasil salycilic creamy cleanser. Ultrasun anti ageing spf50 daily. I'm glowing at the moment. I spent the summer trying a more Hirons cult regime but my skin was dry and wrinkly and awful.

WaggleBee · 02/10/2015 20:57

Kennington I haven't tried hylamide but I do have a money off voucher for the range so keep meaning to look it up. Thought hyaluronic acid might be the cause if the Hydraluron breaking me out so wasn't sure whether to try it or not. Which one do you use?

I like the sound of grape seed oil around the eyes. Added to my list. Smile

bodenbiscuit · 02/10/2015 21:00

Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream

Comfortzone · 02/10/2015 21:45

Bio Oil is good, I have combination skin. Clinique doesnt do much for my skin. Nivea soft is great but no SPF. Olay good, also has spf.

sonata1 · 02/10/2015 22:02

I use Hylamide. After a recommendation on here I went to Boots and found it with a few ££ off. It is good. Doesn't break me out. You only need 2 drops for the face (I am using up the Aldi Lacura Soy on my neck) and it does plump up your skin. I also use the Hylamide eyes. Whilst that one does reduce dark circles it stings. It also lasts for ages as one drop is all you need to do both eyes. However, I think I won't repurchase when it runs out purely because of the stinging. When I contacted Hylamide about it they said that some people experience temporary tingling. Erm no...it aint temporary and it aint tingling !

Kennington · 02/10/2015 22:27

It just says hylamide subq something - not for the eyes
Good point about the ingrediants being similar .Tbh I don't use much
Am using up hydraluron and I found it too viscous - it does break me out if I use too much. Plus I give my skin a break frequently and apply nothing a couple of nights a week.

WaggleBee · 02/10/2015 22:44

If I go one night without anything my skin goes really flaky. Might be an illness thing. I might give the hylamide a try then. Thank you both. Smile

The one for eyes sounds painful! I quite like Clinique all about eyes rich. Not so good under make up as it's quite thick but a good one for nighttime as it's soothing and gets rid of any dryness.

Still on the hunt for a moisturiser.

Awholelottanosy · 02/10/2015 22:47

Laroche Posay Redermic C was a brilliant moisturiser but sadly I can't find it in Boots anymore ( why do so many great products get discontinued?), not found anything as good since...:(

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 03/10/2015 06:13

The best moisturiser I have ever ever had, (and having tried Chanel, Dior and other ££££s ones) is the NY Frankincense Nourishing mentioned by pps.
Elemis Marine did nothing for me except make my skin 'roll' off. A MN skincare guru told me it's because it is very silicone heavy (like a lot of primers)

jellyjiggles · 03/10/2015 07:06

I have really dry sensitive skin and often get eczema or flakes. It's horrible.

The only two night creams I've found are Nivea blue pot and skin food by weleda. Skin food is difficult to get hold of in shops but a tube is £10 and lasts a very long time.

I've tried all sorts of day creams and serums but nothing works as well.

I moisturise every morning and night and during the day lightly pat over makeup. I cleanse with coconut oil and wipe it off with a hot wet face muslin. My skin is still dry and I get the odd spot especially round the jaw or neck areas.

Grok · 03/10/2015 07:22

Anyone tried Dr Hauschka? Thinking of getting the Moisturising Day Cream.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 03/10/2015 08:05

I used Dr Hauschka years ago. It's OK. Nothing special. I wouldn't buy it again.

horsewalksintoabar · 03/10/2015 08:14

Try Jojoba oil. Just a little, as you would use your serum. Clarin's huile blue orchid is a worthy investment for dehydrated skin. But if cost is an issue, a small bottle of Jojoba will do wonders. Wear it like a serum under your moisturiser.

horsewalksintoabar · 03/10/2015 08:16

I second Skin Food by Wileda which you can buy online or at bigger branches of Holland and Barrett. I use Nivea myself (day cream essentials) but underneath I use oil.

horsewalksintoabar · 03/10/2015 08:21

Nivea blue pot is too heavy. I agree.
A great all rounder cream- one I always go back to- is LA Roche Posay's hydreane (used to be called hydranorme) riche at night, light or legere for day time.

anotherdayanothersquabble · 03/10/2015 08:27

jasper Where do you buy your rosehip oil? I live in France and my usual source has stopped stocking it so I need an on line source.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 03/10/2015 08:29

I'd never use Astral/Nivea blue pot during the day. I'd have to wait an hour for it to soak in before putting my slap on!

Oils are great, but again, I use those at night as a moisturiser. One of the MN facial experts told us that oils need to be the last thing you put on (ie on top of a moisturiser, not under) because otherwise a cream wouldn't be absorbed properly but sort of sit on top. I only use either/or so don't know if this is right, but it makes sense. If £££s are an issue, buy your oils from Naissance on Amazon. Cheap as chips, because you aren't paying the ££££s for fancy packaging and advertising and ladies in white coats in department stores. (The only oil I will continue to buy branded is NYF)
