Dyeing cotton elastane

Has anyone successfully died 95% cotton 5% elastane?
It's a pair of stretchy cotton narrow leg trousers which are currently pale stone/beige - colour options could be dark taupe, khaki or a dark teal colour
There are no exposed seams or stitching which could come out a different colour
I'm hoping that due to dieting they won't fit me next summer, so if not worth bothering will sell on eBay
But currently they are a perfect fit, and were quite expensive, but the colour doesn't suit me, and more spring/summer anyway
What brands would you recommend? Hand dye or washing machine?
I haven't tried dyeing things since I was a teenager and it was a bit hit and miss then

i have just dyed some jeans which were 2% elastane with dylon machine wash dye - perfect result. I think you should go ahead & probably you can stick 1-2 tshirts or similar in there

Well worth doing... I think you might be better off with taupe or esp khakhi as base colour will likely influence things. I have dyed a few things over the years, only time I have had a patchy result is when item made of different fabrics (eg bras with lace trim etc) - fine on items with 1 fabric.

I used the 'old' machine was dye NOT wash and dye - this one comes in a box not sachet. - I do plan to try the new wash & dye next though

you have to run 1 clear wash afterwards to clean machine, I did 2 to be on safe side

I have. The elastaline might mean you'll get a slightly less intense colour but that's all. Sometimes the zip (as well as the stitching) doesn't take the dye - depends whether it's cotton.

Getting the colour you want is unpredictable as PP says. I've just dyed a beige cotton jumper with Dylon grey and it's come out sludgy green. As it happens, I really like it but it was unexpected. However the beige will have had a lot of yellow and there was probably blue in the grey dye. Of the three colours you're considering, I would say dark Taupe is the safest. Teal might be fun but be prepared for anything! Or you could use a colour remover before you dye - Dylon do one but it has a very strong, chemical smell.

I use machine Dylon on cotton, linen and mixes or hand dye if there's wool, silk or cashmere in it. The packets explain what to use with what fabric.

The least end shouldn't affect the dye. It's core spun, which means the elastomer is spun inside the denim fibre and isn't visible.
