Has anyone ordered prescription glasses online?

Just that really. I need new glasses but don't want to spend £££ at boots/ where ever.

Where have you ordered from?
Were they any good?
How did you choose frames without trying them out?

Thanks! Grin Flowers

Daft question but how do you get your prescription? I had my eyes tested 6 months ago at boots and kept my old frames but really need prescription sunglasses. Do I just go in and ask for my prescription from the last eye test?!

Yes, you can just ask the optition for a copy of the prescription.

I've had glasses from glasses direct, they were fine. Tbh, I've found Specsavers are cheaper, and offer great service, or at least my local branch do. I would use glasses direct again if they had a frame I particularly like, but meh.

I qualify for free NHS test and specs as I have certain health issues, and I get the test and free pair at specsavers to have as a spare, but I always get my everyday ones from glasses direct when they have their half price frames plus a free pair offer on. I pay for a sunglasses tint on one pair. I've never had a problem with them, and have had some really lovely glasses from them at a fraction of specsavers prices.

Specsavers now do glasses online I believe and free aftercare at one of their stores.

I had glasses from Glasses Direct, then some from Specsavers, which broke (leg) a few weeks back. I wear contact lenses most of the time anyway, but was due a sight test, and ended up buying new glasses at my own optician, which is an independent one. I hadn’t realised that I get 50% off frames and lenses because I get my contact lenses on direct debit.

Anyway, when I put the new specs on I said to the optician that they felt really odd compared to the ones I had - I was back to the old Glasses Direct ones in the interim. She took the old ones away and checked the prescription, and it turns out they were actually far too strong for me, despite them being based on my 2016 prescription and my eyes being slightly worse now.

I’m really happy with the glasses I now have, but this definitely has put me off buying online in the future.

For reference I’m currently -5 in the right eye, -4.75 in the left, and the 2016 prescription was -4.5 and -4.25.

Several times, latest ones from Superdrug online opticians, good quality and cheap. I picked frames of a similar shape and size to prev frames so knew they would look ok. Some sites have a virtual try on and others let you get frames home to try too

I've used Glasses Direct a couple of times but my last pair were from Specsavers.
I have varifocals and whilst the price from GD was good, I found the fit on the regular varifocals I got from them wasn't great. Didn't realise you could get frames sent to you to try on...
I also got a pair of Wayfarer type sunglasses from them for holiday, these are fine.
One other thing I noticed with the GD ones, I just couldn't keep the lenses clean. I'd spray them with proper cleaning solution etc. but minutes later they'd pick up dirt and never seemed clean for any length of time. Don't know if it's something to do with the material of the lenses.
Think I'll probably get another pair of 'Wayfarers' in a couple of months as my prescription has changed, but not regular glasses.
