Dry/frizzy hair

I have very thick, curly hair. I use a lot of home hair dye as I like to change my hair and have bright colours. I love messing around with colours but all the bleaching has taken it's toll. My hair is so dry. At the moment I use bed head dumb blonde shampoo and conditioner (mainly because I love the smell Blush), I wrap it in an old t-shirt rather than a towel as I read it helps prevent frizz. I then I use a bed head leave in conditioner. Finally, I scrunch mousse into my hair and leave it to dry naturally. I wash my hair every other day in the evening as it takes 3-4 hours to dry. I use frizz ease serum in the mornings to tame it so I look vaguely presentable. I get a dry/flaky scalp but washing every other day helps prevent this. Any tips or product suggestions for helping with the condition and/or dryness? Sorry for the lack of paragraphs. I'm on the app and trying to put paragraphs in at the moment just inserts random question marks everywhere!

you might want to look up the Curly Girl method of looking after your hair. It basically involves avoiding products with silicones in which can cause build up, and then not using shampoos with sulfates in.
My hair has been much better since I switched to this a few years ago, although recently I have not been sticking to it very well and I can feel a difference in my hair. I also dye my hair at home a fair bit, which does take it's toll.
I am now being careful to stick to proper products and giving my hair some tlc with a deep conditioner to try and get it back to being less straw like!
There is whole website all about looking after curly hair at www.britishcurlies.co.uk which is worth a look. Lots of good info on there.

Thanks!??I've looked at the curly girl method before (that's why I use a tshirt rather than a towel) but struggled with the sls free thing. My hair just felt grim, maybe I didn't give it long enough???I'll have a look at the Tony and Guy product. Would I use it instead of the??mousse or the serum?

First of all, stop colouring it! Curly hair is dry enough, it just can't take the stress.

Secondly, I would recommend the Aphogee 2-step protein treatment (available from Amazon) but be sure to follow the instructions to the letter.

Lastly, consider using a co-wash every other shampoo (e.g, AsIAm coconut cowash or Ojon Cleansing Conditioner). Shampoo can be very harsh and strip out your natural oils.

The silicone in Frizz Ease will be giving you the dry flaky scalp. The silicone coats your hair but doesn't moisturise.
To really make SLS work you need to give up the silicone too. It's in shampoos and conditioners as well as smoothing/shine products.
Unfortunately there is no quick fix. I'm currently using Happy Days SLS free shampoo and doing a vinegar rinse - no conditioner. My hair is surprisingly sleek and shiny and no lumpy itchy scalp.

My hair can be like this but the following really works for me
I only wash my hair once a week following the curly girl method.
The more you strip the scalp using frequent washing and harsh products the worse it becomes - initially it feels better but it aggregates the scalp.
I put coconut oil with a few drops of tea tree on my hair and leave it as long as possible.
Then put a very gentle shampoo first on the hair otherwise it can be greasy afterwards and condition as normal. In the past I used harsh medicated shampoo and long term they made my scalp worse.
I do dye my hair as I'm greying but I use dyes with the minimum possible chemicals - herbatint, Daniel Field ( the colours always come up darker than other dyes so ring their very good help line for advice)

Thanks for all the tips, will give them a try (apart from not dying my hair, I can't be parted from my colours!)

I tried the no sls and sillicones for a year and didn't see a difference in condition.
I use touch of silver shampoo and conditioner once a week (natural blonde, growing out lighter highlights). which leaves it feeling the softest it has ever been. in between I use a bit of Argan oil on my hair and hardly ever comb or brush it, just run my fingers through.
