It is wonderful, isn't it. Mind you, Gap have got some nice stripy cashmere jumpers in at the moment, and if you ever go darn sarf Uniqlo do lots of lovely cashmere for about 50 quid.

I love Brora and can in no way afford it. But I asked my mum to buy me the little cashmere beret, and she had this idea that she could knit one for a tenth of the price. She went to Johnny Loulou, bought the only cashmere wool they had, which only came in about 3 colours, and realised that the pattern insanely underestimated the wool required, so had to buy more. It cost her about £25 in cashmere wool, then she had to make the thing. The beret she made me is the sweetest thing I've ever owned. But didn't work out that much cheaper. And a week later she went into the Brora shop and sent me their beret as well, just because she liked the colours more.

In conclusion, there's no doubt that the chains can do cashmere for a tenth of the price, but your mum can't. Brora's not that exorbitant when you try to recreate it yourself. I want the whole catalogue, I wish I had money.

Phew, cos I just did. Will report back after Christmas. God, they're expensive though. I machine wash them too.

I am so impressed with your dh. Did I tell you I've been in daily email contact with step-ds, whose wife had taken up knitting? She's going to get some fab Christmas presents I can tell you, including the new PINK Denises...

tamum · 29/11/2006 19:00

Oh thank you macneil, that's good to know What a nice mum you have. Cashmere is just so blooming thin, it would take ages to knit anything substantial. There is a seller on eBay who sells it quite reasonably, but they don't often have very nice colours.
