V neck jumpers - frumpy?

Is it just me or do v-neck jumpers make you feel a bit frumpy and sensible? Maybe it's because I'm small chested but I'm wondering whether (age 40) they're not doing me any style favours. Does anyone else avoid them? If so, what's the more flattering alternative? Slash neck tops?

I like them but only with big, chunky jewellery. I tend to wear them slightly oversized with skinny jeans and ballet flats. I think it depends how you put them together
And a cashmere jumper will never look anything other than elegant

I love them. Either oversized with skinnies or shorter length fitted ones that flash a bit of cleavage. Don't ever feel frumpy in one.

lurkingabit · 18/09/2015 18:05

Never occurred to me I might look frumpy in them! I like them.

orlakielyimnot · 18/09/2015 19:07

I don't think it's frumpy but it only suits some shapes and mine isn't one of them!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/09/2015 19:10

I like them. They are practical, comfortable and easy to wear. Don't give a toss if they are 'frumpy' (surely it's how they are worn and the person wearing them, that determines if something hits some sort of invisible MN frump ratio or not?).

WhatamessIgotinto · 18/09/2015 19:21

I like them but I usually only wear very simple jewellery with them because my norks are humongous.

AwkwardSquad · 18/09/2015 20:03

I don't feel frumpy in them. I wear them oversized with a deep v, and a simple pendant necklace. Louche yes, frumpy no!

clutterfly · 18/09/2015 21:55

Thank you for your thoughts. I wore one today and decided for myself it wasn't frumpy. In fact it was even complimented!

Not the F word again...

I have been wearing a lovely oversize cashmere v neck I found in the charity shop last week-it feels like I'm wearing a big hug.

pdxs · 19/09/2015 08:57

I don't think it's a v neck or not, it's a baggy waist in a not - oversize jumper that looks frumpy to me....

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 19/09/2015 11:42

Not a fan of the F word. I wear v neck jumpers a lot but my chest is too big for high necks - there are many more options in the shops for the smaller of chest.

If you like them, wear them. Smile

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/09/2015 17:22

I love them on men, with a round neck t-shirt underneath, but am not keen on them for myself. I have tons of v-neck cardigans, but all my jumpers are crew neck.

FluffyCubs · 20/09/2015 08:06

They're great for reducing big norkage but I only buy them if they've got something to them, like a different texture, buttons on sleeves.... Otherwise they're a bit plain

Charitygirl1 · 20/09/2015 16:30

They haven't been as in fashion as crew necks recently, which is probably where you're getting the frump feeling from. Particularly if you're small-chested then you could add a few crew necks to your wardrobe.

BabyGanoush · 20/09/2015 16:38

It depends

For me it has to be a deep V.

A tiny V looks frumpy on me
