Possible rosacea

Hi- I am looking for some suggestions and/or advice.

I have flushing affecting my nose and it can persists for a few hours after washing my face. We are getting to that time of year when my nose will be permanently red. The redness is worse after a shower or washing my face, after being in cold or windy weather or if I get a little emotional (not necessarily crying emotional, but thinking about something that causes even a small emotional reaction). I have not particularly noticed any association with spicy food and I don't drink alcohol. The GP was dismissive and said it was akin to skin going red after being scratched and not rosacea. The problem has been creeping up on me for a couple of years but it is definitely noticeable to me and my other half. I was not entirely happy but he did say I could ask another GP. thing is, my sister is a GP in a different country and suggested I have early rosacea. I am presently finding I am getting breakouts on my chin-have used effaclar and still have the wash and toner, but have finished the moisturiser. So my skin is more dehydrated/combination than dry. Any similar experiences or suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

Should also add that some of the breakouts on my chin are cystic.

Definitely sounds like Rosacea to me. I was diagnosed a few years ago and also had a type of eczema on top of it. I was prescribed oral antibiotics for a couple of months and a gel. I can't remember what the gel was called but it stung a little after a couple of minutes of application. My skin settled really well and I've not had another flare up. I use LRP but not their rosacea products. I know what my triggers are and I avoid them. I'm also extremely careful about what I put on my face. Touch wood it seems like it's working. If I were you I would ask for a referral to a dermatologist, especially if you have break outs too as you may need a course of anti-biotics.

I had skin like yours - I changed to cleansing with cetaphil and using dermalex moisturiser and my skin is sooo much better. No spots, much less redness, happier skin

Pupsiecola, I wonder if it was metronidazole gel you used? Which LRP products do you use currently? I may see a different GP soon and discuss topical antibiotics at least (I currently am preparing for exams, so I suspect the stress is contributing to both the spots and rosacea!).

CMOTDibbler, I have always been curious about dermalex rosacea cream. It works on the mites that cause rosacea? I might look at the cetaphil cleanser. I currently use Palmer's fragrance free cleanser and alternate with effaclar, though I sometimes uses Clinique take the day off balm to take makeup off in the evening. if there is a 3 for 2 at boots, I could justify a small splurge!

I found most moisturisers didn't suit me so I've been using facial oils. I bought some in TKMaxx the other day, jojoba oil and argon oil. You have to be careful and just use 2-3 drops (which you rub into your palms first) so it absorbs into your skin and doesn't at all sit on top.

I use take the day off if I've worn any type of makeup followed by lrp cleanser. In the mornings I use lrp or cetaphil or nothing and just wipe with a warm muslin cloth whilst in the shower.

Yes I think it was metronidazole. I use:-

LRP Toleriane to cleanse
Redermic 2 to 3 times per week
Eucerin Anti-Age Hyaluron-Filler Cream

I also use Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm once a week

That's it.

I avoid red wine. No biggy as I hardly drink alcohol, perhaps one glass of white wine per week if that. I do eat spicy food sometimes but not really hot. I am very careful with the sun (skin cancer in my family) and also windy weather. My stress levels have dropped considerably since taking exercise seriously and really upping my leisure walking.

Thanks for the tips. I have just got some dermalex but will keep the option of an oil open. Will try the cetaphil cleanser. In fact, I recall the Clinique redness moisturiser was quite nice, if a bit too pricey.

I can't tolerate oils very well. You need to see what works for you but don't switch between too many products too soon.

Oh, I also use this, which is recommended by my dermatologist.

NeoStrata Bio Hydrating Face Cream

50g tub. Contains 15% PHA and has all the benefits of AHAs, yet is gentle and suitable for sensitive skin. An ultrahydrating cream which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with repeated use. It is ideal adjunctive therapy for patients using topical retinoids (e.g. for acne) or to enhance the effects of procedures such as glycolic acid peels. Hypoallergenic and fragrance??free.

I've read about the NeoStrata once when I was doing some research on exfoliation creams. I agree re not too much chopping and changing products. I often wonder if shea butter in products is also not the best for me- seems to be in everything though! Do you buy the neostartata online?

Yes I do. From my dermatologist's website.

I tried various creams, but the only thing that shifted mine was Tetralysal tablets from the GP.
