I'm looking for a pair as non of my current boots look right with skirts.

I want a medium heel that are comfortable to walk in as I walk everywhere, a colour that goes with most things, and something flattering. I

Should you match colour to tights?

Is there a shape of top that is more flattering to legs?

Help and suggestions please!

The Aldo ones are much better in the flesh than they look online. I got a pair today - on first try they were really comfortable and they dip slightly at the front so are quite flattering. Definitely fine with a skirt or dress. Really nice leather. Worth a look.

Sorry I haven't been back for a while, busy week, but thanks for all the great suggestions!

I still haven't bought any boots but my plan is to go out with my favourite skirt on with black tights and try on. Perhaps the conclusion will be look is not for me and I'll buy some longer ones but at least I'll know!

I'm a cowboy or biker boots girl.
I have black and tan cowboy boots so they go with everything.
Black biker boots of course to make thing more casual.
these are mine soooo comfy.
I can wear them under jeans, with nice dresses, with tights or without.
They are hard to get on to begin with and I had to order a size bigger.
But I wear them a lot.
I work in a pub as well and they are great for being on your feet all day long.

Ankle boots that don't go straight across at the top are the most flattering to your leg I think. I have the ash jalouse which I know are a bit old hat now but love how the top of the boot dips down it makes your legs look longer and they don't chop you off at the ankle.

Stevie77 · 25/09/2015 18:15

I like those Aldo boots but shame the heel is not black. Otherwise they are just what I was looking for for work.

Lucylloyd13 · 26/09/2015 06:41

You have me al worried now. I bought a nice pair of mid heel black suede ankle boots which I team with nude tights and various skirts. it looks alright to me, and I have had no adverse comments- but it seems as ifi am committing a fashion faux pas.

Floisme · 26/09/2015 10:08

I wear (flat) ankle boots and skirts all the time and I'm fairly sure no children or animals have been harmed. As the first poster said, it mainly depends on the shape of your ankles (and calves). Just because they don't suit everyone doesn't mean they're a style crime.

Floisme · 26/09/2015 10:09

Oh and same with nude tights. I think they're less forgiving than opaques but if you're legs are up to it, they look fine (if cold).

MairzyDoats · 26/09/2015 10:14

I have skinny ankles and calves so my only rule is that the boots are a little more fitted around the top, otherwise it just looks like I'm standing in two buckets.

SirChenjin · 26/09/2015 10:15

I would love to wear ankle boots with dresses and skirts, but at five foot 1, size 12 with skinny ankles they just shorten and widen me even more Sad. Will watch thread with interest.

Floisme · 26/09/2015 11:02

I think they can look good with skinny ankles but they need to end at exactly the right place which is a bit faffy.

SirChenjin · 26/09/2015 11:23

Where would you say the right place is?

MairzyDoats · 26/09/2015 11:38

Your knees Wink

SirChenjin · 26/09/2015 11:43

Mairzy - I totally agree Grin. I just feel as if I'm missing out somewhere on this ankle boot/dress look....

MairzyDoats · 26/09/2015 12:11

I'm the same... I'm trying with some slightly heeled ankle boots but not sure I'm pulling it off.

Knackeredknitter67 · 26/09/2015 14:55

Ive been wearing ankle boots/dress combo with no second thought....must pay closer attention now.

Floisme · 26/09/2015 18:10

Where would you say the right place is?
I think it depends on the shape of your ankles and calves. I didn't think it made any difference till I went shopping with a friend and we realised we suited different lengths: calf length made her legs look short and chunky whereas low ankle length just looked silly on me.

I think it's a bit like dress length; not everyone suits the same. Sorry if that's not helpful!

mewkins · 26/09/2015 18:44

I have held off on ankle boots until this year as realised they look better with knee length skirts and dresses than my knee length boots. They look a bit more modern. I have seen lots of pinterest pics of people doing bare legs (or flesh tights) with black or brown boots and skirts but think I may stick with opaques so that the boots bkend in a bit.

SirChenjin · 27/09/2015 19:32

Flo - that is not helpful in the slightest Grin Grin

So - ankle boots for skinny ankles on a short person. Anyone got any ideas?

Floisme · 28/09/2015 17:58

Sorry Sirchenjin Grin

goodasitgets · 28/09/2015 18:05

Meh. I am rule breaking today with a waist belt, leggings and ankle boots Wink

Ankle boots to wear with dress and tights - any rules?
Twinklestein · 28/09/2015 19:09

You look nice goodasitgets but to be honest, I think the dress would look better just with black tights and shoes.

The leggings plus boots are shortening your legs.

goodasitgets · 28/09/2015 19:15

Yeah I don't do tights ever! Usually wear long boots but couldn't be bothered today
I'm 5ft 11 so shortening is good for me Grin

Scattymum101 · 30/09/2015 10:49

Goodasitgets I think that looks great!
I think tights and shoes can look a bit stiff and formal.
I think that looks more edgy and younger - still smart enough for work but casual enough you could wear it if not at work.
