big painful scaring spots on chin

Evening!

Have always had the odd break out or one big spot on my chin pre period however since I got married (and bought £200 of benefit make up, which I now wear nearly every day) I have permanent big painful blind spots on my chin which are leaving scars, and very bobbly spotty for head.

I cleanse and moisturise daily. Drink tons of water. Exfoliate etc....

Hormones? The make up?

Feel very self conscious of them. They are impossible to cover up, either red and swollen and come really quickly, as soon as one started to heal another 2 have arrived today.

If you mean when you say you exfoliate that you use those horrible granular scrubs then you need to stop using them. They will be making the acne much worse, they are awful for the skin. You need a chemical exfoliator, preferably one with salicylic acid but I do live Liquid Gold (which is an aha) and can be used every other night as a treatment in conjunction with daily use of a BHA
I would second going to the Dr. A course of antibiotics would probably clear your existing spots
Caroline Hirons website has a really good acne section so that would be worth having a read

Pre July I was wearing and loved the aldi night soy based night cream

Since July have been using

Number 7 hot cloth cleanser
Number 7 dermo

Ooh has that hot cloth got castor oil in it? That makes loads of people break out.
Stop it anyway and def change cleansers. Something gentle still, don't go all caustic.

OnlyWantsOne · 13/09/2015 20:17

Posted too soon.

Number 7 microdermobrasion face scrub which stings like a bitch
Number 7 moisturiser with spf

Rimmel primer (maybe X2 a week)
Benefit foundation
Powder
Bronzer hooler
Blush

Neither of the above two on my chin though

So must be either my routine or the foundation

Haven't worn any make up at all this weekend and have been using water to wash my face and last night went to bed with no moisturiser (skin feels tight and rough)

Which benefit foundation?

OnlyWantsOne · 13/09/2015 20:24

Hello flawless

I'd honestly ditch the primer. They're all full of silicone, and that can be v cloggy. I can't wear it at all.

TheSpottedZebra · 13/09/2015 20:27

A quick Google tells me that that's full of silicones too. I'd def try dropping those two, and find a different foundation.

cosdna.com is good for information on ingredients.

OnlyWantsOne · 13/09/2015 22:50

I've been using some duac that I had previously... it does help when they've arrived I just want to stop the constant out brake.

Will go back to a dab of rimmel tomorrow. Can't face school run with a bare face

I have had these painful, 'blind', cystic spots for 20 years. As recommended on here, I recently started using Hibiscrub (about £5 from chemists) on that area, and it has really helped. Just be careful not to get it near eyes (it is a powerful, antibacterial cleanser used by surgeons before ops)

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 14/09/2015 07:05

my doctor said when she prescribed the Duac that it was actually better at preventing them, and to try to use it before I got the spots if I could predict them (hormone related, so it sounded reasonable, though in my case it wasn't consistent enough - so I just use it every day, despite the itching).

Wolpertinger · 14/09/2015 08:16

Duac is a whole face preventer rather than a dab on a spot make it go away product.

You need to see your GP really. Your skincare should look like this:

Non-foaming cleasner, no scrubby particles - eg Cetaphil, Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser
Salicylic acid toner - eg Paula's Choice 2% BHA, Effaclar Duo
Oil-free moisturiser - Cerave, which also has niacinamide which is great for acne as well

Makeup - nothing longwear or oily.

Doing that on it's own might be enough but given you have had prescription products before, you prob need a prescription again.

lucysmam · 14/09/2015 10:12

The active ingredient in hibiscrub is used as a preservative in mouthwash among other uses from the bit of reading I've done about it. It seems a really harsh thing to put on your face Fifty.

Op, it does seem like a trip to the gp would help better than faffing with products. Once you're happier with your skin, start looking at lotions and potions to keep it looking lovely & stick to the very very basics for now.

derektheladyhamster · 14/09/2015 11:31

Hibiscrub works wonders on my skin too Blush
I'm having a fab time on the Asian beauty thread, also seems to be helping with my skin

FiftyShadesOfSporn · 14/09/2015 12:43

The lesser of two evils, Lucy. I was on the pill for years for spots, with daily ABs, then an AB topical ointment, later the Mirena. Nothing has helped like the hibiscrub.

Wolpertinger · 14/09/2015 13:03

Hibiscrub would not be recommended by dermatologists for acne - if it works for you that's great. It wrecks my skin on my hands, no way would I put it on my face.
