Facial oils are amazing if you have red or spotty skin

Try them if you just can't find a moisturiser that works, and Ive tried a fair few.

The oil I'm using is clarins lotus oil but I'm sure there are other great ones.

I just can not find a moisturiser other than cliniques moisture surge that doesn't aggravate my skin.

Do you have a moisturiser or oil you would recommend for rosacea or spotty skin that improves it?

La Roche Posay Effaclar duo absolutely fixes my spotty skin. I don't find it moisturising enough for long term but it clears it up when I have bad skin. I do love oils too though.

Aroundamulberry · 10/09/2015 23:38

Oh yes I agree la roche posay effeclar duo absolutely fixes my skin, but now it's fixed, and thank you for that, I need something to maintain it and after a bit of trial and error I've found clarins lotus oil is great for that.

Sorry what I mean is if you usually have rosacea or spotty skin and have cleared it up with something like effaclar duo so now need a good oil or moisturiser to keep it in check.

I cant find a single moisturiser other than Clinique moisture surge or clarins lotus oil that doesn't react with my skin.

So if you have discovered something do please share.

Oil free neutrogena is pretty good

Greenstone · 11/09/2015 10:17

I loooooove Effaclar Duo and can't believe I suffered acne for so long without it. But it is quite drying. I use it at night as I couldn't imagine putting make-up on over it.

There is a really bog-standard Nivea cream I like - hang on I'll see if I can find link

the day cream

It's very mild but moisturising. There is a Calendula rose cream I also buy occasionally from health food shops, that's nice too but much dearer.

I have mild rosacea and very red cheeks and nose. I find my cheeks and forehead being really dry and recently and was looking at oils. Do you use them under moisturiser? My nose has huge pores and is bright red and very oily. I have been using Bare Minerals powder and it just slides off my nose by about 11am due to the oil! But saying my nose is oily, it can also be very dry and flaky at times?? I hate my face skin!!!

Love love love Clarins Lotus oil!

Aroundamulberry · 11/09/2015 12:27

You can put moisturiser over oil if you wanted but for me pretty much every moisturiser affects my skin making it red and bumpy. No idea why.

I find the oil is more than enough, just don't use too much of it just 2-3 drops and it should sink in nicely.

I will wear CC cream on its own, boujois works for me, which doesn't seem to irritate my skin.

Cerave is quite good. It is available online. It is fragrance free and has good ingredients for skin.

Turquoisedance · 11/09/2015 20:32

La roche posay do some anti redness / rosacea moisturisers, no idea what they are like as I haven't tried them but worth a try

InternationalEspionage · 11/09/2015 20:43

Toleraine for LRP, I think.

Neat jojoba or borage oil from a cap also lovely.

Happy50 · 11/09/2015 22:08

Many moisturisers trigger my skin but I have found the following very gentle and effective
fushi rose hip oil
Coconut
Argan oil
Dr Hauska rose day cream

Turquoisedance · 12/09/2015 10:03

These are worth a try maybe although there are lots of oils being recommended

My skin is much happier with an oil or oily moisturiser. If I veer from lush Shangri la my skin breaks out. Had the clarins lotus oil for xmas and my skin lapped it up over winter.

Turquoisedance · 13/09/2015 17:54

I have just bought from TK Maxx some 'oilology' - facial argon oil and facial jojoba oil. After cleansing etc I have just put on a couple of drops of jojoba oil, it feels very nice and sinks in well.

So thanks for your recommendations, I wouldn't have tried them otherwise.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/09/2015 18:04

I'm currently using a sample of lotus oil, and it's lovely. I don't have red skin or spots though (touch wood), so wonder if I'd be better with a different one?

yazzy85 · 13/09/2015 18:27

Cerave PM works great. I bought it after someone recommended it on here. Its light and moisturising with good skincare ingredients.

CustardSquare · 13/09/2015 18:32

Pai Skincare make really lovely moisturisers for sensitive skin. I love them all but my favourite is the Chamomile and Rosehip one. They even make a serum for reactive skin.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 13/09/2015 18:36

The Holy Grail of oils for me is NY Frankincense. I won't be without it. Their Rose is good, but not as good for my 49 yr old face. Rosehip did squat for me. Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate is very nice but £££.

EmilyPunkhurst · 13/09/2015 18:36

I was given a sample of Sunday Riley's Artemis. It smells bloody odd (strangely meaty) and it's £££ but it's also completely brilliant.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 13/09/2015 18:37

I learned on the Amazing Faces thread that oils are supposed to go after moisturiser if you use both btw. Something scientific about molecule size.
