Size ten shoes for a teenage girl!

I thought I'd saved a thread about this, but apparently not. DD1, aged sixteen, desperately needs new shoes and boots. She's finally gone past the biggest sizes in New Look Sad.

Any suggestions for good shops, either web based or with showrooms? Willing to take her to London if necessary, would prefer Bath or Oxford though. But a good internet shop with a free returns policy would be best of all!

Have to go out to work, but I hope some of you lovely people will be able to help. TIA

Feel your pain, I have size 10 feet.

Hotter 9 wide fit my feet, filter out the nice ones before you show her though as some my nana would find old fashioned, and some I love. These I love.

Hush puppies also do a 10 in some styles.

Marisota also do some nice boots.

Going to follow the thread and see if I can get any more ideas.

i think evans may also do large shoe sizes, but don't know who she would feel about a plus size retailer?

I'm a size 9, but i do find clarks come up quite big for size 9.

My daughter takes 10 or 11.

The shops of choice are Magnus and others on Chiltern Street in London, plus mail order.

I'm size 9 and buy boots from Duo (which I see now have rebranded as tedandmuffy.com). They are perhaps too expensive for a teenager but they do have sales periodically and I've got a pair for ??50 before. They do shoes as well.

Also, I buy sandals and espadrilles from varca.com. Again, not especially cheap but they have sales too.

If you ever travel to the States, Payless Shoe Source is a chain store that carries larger sizes (a UK 10 would be a US 12 in women's shoes) and they are quite reasonable. I've had shoes from there that have lasted ages.

Lastly, you could try amazon because you can narrow down by size and I think shoes have free returns.

I've always found with large size shoes you can either get really cheap shoes (usually online) but they are such poor quality they fall apart. Or you can buy really expensive shoes. But it's the middle of the range variety that just aren't available.

I've seen some Josef Siebel ones in larger sizes, no idea about cost/quality. Gabor also do some in larger sizes. Look for German/Scandinavian brands.

Albus - her feet are on the narrow side, but will have a look. I love the boots on the Marisota page you linked to but she may not... Smile

BigBro - I'll try Clarks, she may go on strike on the grounds of association with school shoes - she's just started Sixth Form and wants only to be achingly cool - but we may have joy.

SnowFilled - Didn't know Brantano went over size 9 - and there's a branch only fifteen miles away.

Bolograph - Is that the street I heard mentioned on Women's Hour while driving and unable to stop and make notes!? Apparently about four larger size independent shoe shops all in a row?

hennybeans - again thanks for website suggestions. We may be going to the US, but not for a few months, however I will ask the sister who lives in San Francisco if Payless Shoe Source is on the West Coast. It might even be worth the inordinate cost of shipping! I absolutely agree about quality. DP is the source of the large size feet for both our daughters (the other seems to have stabilised at 8.5), he is a UK 15 and apart from boots that he spent ??200+ on, his shoes never last more than a few months. At this stage, cheap and not very long lasting is okay, apart from her hiking boots for DofE and Geography field trips etc, which I have already spent serious money on. She's young enough that she'll want new styles each season.

I'm going to ask for this to be moved into something that won't disappear after 90 days, which is I think what must have happened to the thread I thought I'd moved into Watching last year. Style and Beauty I imagine is the right place, but I thought I'd get more replies in Chat, and I think I was right.

Evans sell size 10. Although they don't do a narrow fitting, and many of their shoes are in a wide fitting they do do quite a few in between.

The advantage is that they have a lot (relatively) to chose from. Also they will order in, so if they don't have a 10 in stock, but you try a 9 and like it you can order in.

I am a size 10, long narrow feet and I wear Evans shoes.
The other place I shop is Brantano, but very mixed experience, sometimes not one single shoe to try. They are very good for boots though and seem to have them in a size 10.
Phone before you go as we have 2 within range from us, one has the full range, the other never has size 10.

Update - we went into a shop I'd never seen before, called Deichmanns, and found that some stuff was available in 9s and 10s, including a pair of boots she loves. Very keen pricing too!

Whether they last until spring is another matter...

I've occasionally seen size 10 (and bigger) in TK Maxx. Just checked and they currently have a few pairs online in both 9.5 and 10.

I'm a 9.5 which is bloody annoying. Bad enough being larger than an 8 but a half size too! Some brands I can fit into a 9, and some a 10. Most of the ones I use are listed here but I'll list where I shop (and I can often get into the 9s):-

Next
Dorothy Perkins

Chiltern Street in London is a great place to look, with a few shops.

After 8 is a good bet as they are in Bath as someone said up thread. They used to have a store in Kingston which suited me well but they closed down a few years ago.

When I was 14/15 Lily and Skinner on Oxford Street had a whole floor for larger sizes (and smaller). It was amazing. I would save up from my weekend pub job and go up twice a year and buy 4 pairs. They were really trendy too (1980s so lots of cerise pink and electric blue stilettos lol). I also remember having to go to an awful frumpy shop in London to spent 80 quid a pair on dull school shoes.

Sorry if these have already been listed,

I'm a size 9/10 (depending on the store) and I buy my shoes from the following places:

Hush Puppies
Deichman
Evans
New Look (rarely, their 9's are tiny compared to other stores IMO)

Check out Sketchers, VERY generous size 8's, most styles fit my size 9/10 feet

Also, brands like Toms and Converse are basically the same shoes for men and women. I live in my converse.

pupsiecola - I did the same!

Lily and Skinner was amazing. they had branches all over too, so I could go to Bristol etc.

When it first opened, my mum took me up and we spent the whole afternoon just trying on shoes. I think my mum was in tears. it was the first time I had ever been able to try on fun shoes.

I bought a pair of beige school shoes, that were REALLY pointy toed with tiny stiletto heels. They pushed every boundary of school shoes and killed my feet and I absolutely loved them and wore them every day til they fell to pieces.

When they were taken over and shut down, the woman in one of the branches told me that it was madness, 20% of their custom came from the tall and small and they were the most loyal customers.

I hear ya step. I loved going there and I loved the novelty of trying on shoes that were TOO BIG! Such a shame it closed down. Feet are getting bigger aren't they, so the customer base will have grown so much since then.

Great thread! I'm "only" a size 8-9 (not as difficult as 9-10 but still a pain) and place marking so I can come back to the recommendations.
I hated Clarks when I was at school but like them now. Either the styles have improved or my taste has matured! I also wear my Converse a lot.

I tried on some New Balance trainers the other day. A 9 was a little tight and they didn't have a 10. OMG they made my feet look titchy as they have really rounded toes. (Another thing we have to consider; I have quite skinny ankles and can look like a golf club).

I had a pair of brown suede Hush Puppies boots a few years ago. I wish I had bought more pairs as they were perfect. Sadly being suede they only lasted 3 years.

Oh, and Timberland go to up a 9. For those with school aged/younger girls I would defo recommend Next, Dorothy Perkins, Tall Girls and Clarks as they are more reasonably priced. Although it annoys me that you have to pay P&P (or collect from a store) in Next. Feels like a big feet tax and it's frustrating that you can't try on loads of pairs like everyone else.

I have a nice wedged shoe from M&S in a size 9 so they must have done them as a trial at some point.
