I bought a skirt from White Stuff once. I was postnatal (possibly psychotically so). I sold in on eBay for a fair amount but now they KEEP SPAMMING ME with their catalogues full of hideous shit every week.

Coolforthesummer · 11/09/2015 13:26

I got a 20% off code through the post so did have a look at this season's stuff. Nothing whatsoever for me. Same for Boden. Can't find a single thing. I haven't bought anything from either store for several years.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 11/09/2015 13:36

This website inspired me to look at their website for the first time and now I regret it as I have a headache. Those patterns!

GushiStuff · 11/09/2015 13:40

I lived in White Stuff when I was in a lost-my-style-sense postnatal stage, as the tunics were loose and 'cheerful' Grin.

Then woke up and realised they were a) frump central and b) bloody expensive to boot.

Bunbaker · 11/09/2015 13:52

I love their jeggings. They fit beautifully and are really comfortable.

I also like A line skirts as they suit me far better than pencil skirts. I don't care if they are frumpy.

unweavedrainbow · 11/09/2015 13:59

I like their plain coloured long sleeve tops. They go under everything and seem to be cut for people with boobs. I agree on the tunics though-tunics are always frumpy.

IsabellaofFrance · 11/09/2015 14:03

I agree that their basics plain tops are good, cut nicely and not too tight.

AmyLouKin · 11/09/2015 14:13

Personally I like them! They are just too expensive for me! I prefer Sea Salt though, as there is an outlet store near me which has massive reductions! I like pattern and colour in my clothes. Not been in a store in a while so no idea what their current season is like!
I find most high street stores tend to do super bright colours, neons and such or black! Plus everything seems to be 80's inspired which I hate! As far as I'm concerned it's the decade fashion forgot!
Off to see if the current White Stuff collection is as terrible as people say!

ungulater · 11/09/2015 14:25

Weeeel, if you think they are always the same and you always hate the stuff you could always try not looking Wink.

Personally I really like some of their dresses (I have a number of plain ones - they do exist). And I never wear tunics. From anywhere.

BoskyCat · 11/09/2015 14:25

I like a mooch in white stuff, bearing in mind 99% of it will be awful, I have had things from there that I've loved ?? the occasionally really nice cardie, a couple of dresses, and more especially, accessories like bags and socks. They are also great for men. The men's knitwear, jeans and print shirts, which all suit DP, are much nicer design and quality than the women's stuff (in general).

What gets me most is the prints ?? once in a blue moon they will do a really nice, modern-looking or really cool retro-style print. Then there are huge piles of stuff with those over-fussy, muddy-coloured, somehow neither one thing nor the other, frumpsville style prints, all over saggy tunics and jersey dresses.

As PPs say it is weird that they never seem to "move on". Even Boden with all its classic garishness, tries to keep half an eye on fashion.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 11/09/2015 19:59

And fat face. If you shop in white stuff do you also shop in fat face? Or are they totally different gangs? Do they square up in the school playground doing west side story style fight dancing?

BerniceB · 11/09/2015 20:09

I've had a few things from there (mostly plainish tops and a couple of dresses), but the sizing drives me batty. I can be a thing from an 8 to a 14 in there. Someone should buy them a bloody tape measure.

BrendaandEddie · 11/09/2015 20:39

lol @ west side story

clicks fingers

I've said this on another similar thread but I think their target market is now the per una crowd rather than thirty somethings.
I'm generally the youngest by about 20 years when I go in these days.

I hate the way all their £50 jumpers come with tags telling you how badly they'll bobble. No thanks.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 11/09/2015 21:46

They do the same style dress in a different pattern every season. Ditto tunics and shirts.

Their stuff used to be better, both quality and style.

Haven't bought anything in ages from them.

Pippioddstocking · 12/09/2015 06:04

It seems to be the dress code of the private school mum here . Personally I think it's frumpy .

Roonerspism · 12/09/2015 06:14

I loved White Stuff years ago when they did their fab, thick sweatshirts. Really good quality. The odd skirt. Cotton tops.

£45 for a cheap viscose tunic?! You are having a giraffe. Never go in now.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/09/2015 06:26

The factory shop near me, which used to be 99% M&S is now full of White Stuff and the Maria Von Trapp curtains inspired Boden frocks.

I guess the fact that the same factory is finishing the products shouldn't mean they are similar, but y'know..... The M&S stuff is a lot bloody nicer that's for sure.

Imperialleather2 · 12/09/2015 06:50

Yes I agree white stuff and fat Face are equally bad. Both expensive and both look washed out and tatty before its even been worn.

Greengardenpixie · 12/09/2015 09:31

I used to love their stuff. Loved the fact that you could get a beautiful retro print skirt that noone had where i live and a lovely top to go with it. I used to love the photography of their brochures that used to sell it to me. I didnt ever get the impression of frumpy.
Now their things seem dull. The models look really old fashioned and frumpy. It puts me off. They used to do beautiful colours. Now its drab and unexciting or bright and over the top. The moving model clips make things much worse! especially the one with the pony tail!
I feel sad about it as i really looked forward to their collections.

Loved it at this time:

Dislike this:

The moving model, her shoes, her hair...she looks so frumpy!

Greengardenpixie · 12/09/2015 09:36

Loved it when it was like this

Loved the time of the green rose velvet coat and the model walking with the bike. I loved that coat. Couldnt afford it at the time and it sold out before i could buy it. Second hand ones on ebay went for a fortune. Such as shame its gone this way now.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 12/09/2015 09:38

I think it's dying a slow death.

I also used to buy a few bits but it has been a few years since they have had anything I wanted to buy. It is so formulaic, nothing seems to change from one year to the next. Apart from the styling getting worse! I do agree that even the models look frumpy in the clothes.

Bunbaker · 12/09/2015 09:47

I am new to White Stuff as they have only just opened store that I can get to easily. I like to pop in for a browse, but find them expensive and so many of the clothes are so thin - as they are in most shops these days.

I don't always like what they have and most of the muted colours don't suit me, but now and again I find a gem like a dress similar to this but in a sea green colour. It really suits me and goes well with opaque tights and boots. I don't think it is frumpy at all, but maybe I'm frumpy.

How do you define frumpy BTW?

Greengardenpixie · 12/09/2015 09:55

I really like that dress bunbaker. That is like their old stuff.
I dont know how you would describe frumpy. Maybe old fashioned, old before your time kind of thing.

Bunbaker · 12/09/2015 10:00

I got it last Christmas.
