I am 46 and had good skin all my life apart from teenage years. For the last month my skin is terrible, I have lots of little spots under the skin some with a head (not blackhead) on my forehead and tremble, my face goes oily only a couple of hours after cleansing. I also have spots on hairline and on scalp. I haven't changed any hair or skin products for years, except that I have been using a new cleanser and moisturiser since I started to have spots (Burts Bees Deep Cleanser and light moisturiser). I honestly don't know what to do. I eat well and drink extra water. The only change is that 4 months ago I started a new contraceptive pill (zelleta).

Anything you could recommend? I am on a budget and I don't want to spend too much so any home remedies or affordable products please help!

Hi I use an asprin mixed with lemon as a facial scrub twice a week. Asprin to stop redness from spots and lemon for my acne scars. I know you said you don't want to spend a lots of money but what's really made a huge difference for me is la roche posey effeclar you can get it from boots. I only use the cream and after years of problems it's significantly improved them. I still use a cheap cleanser. You can go down the route of retin a but it's quite extreame and you have to be careful as it's can cause sun damage. Hope this helps

I'd go back to the GP and ask about changing pill. A hormone change (caused by changing pill) is a very likely explanation.

In the meantime, I'd recommend La Roche Posay Effaclar range. You can get it at Boots. I'd get the face wash and Effaclar Duo cream. Use them both twice a day and be really scrupulous about keeping hair, towels, pillowcases clean and not touching your face too much during the day.

Mineral make up (Lily Lolo foundation for example) is good at covering the spots and seems to help to heal them.

Toothpaste is great - dab it on great big pimples overnight and they'll be gone in the morning.

It's probably the birth control.

Have you considered Retin A? It was first prescribed for acne, and then it was found to reduce wrinkles. It's pretty awesome stuff. I'm your age and have used Retin A for several months. My skin looks fantastic.
