Obagi. Anyone used them?

Wombatinabathhat · 28/08/2015 19:48

I have booked an appointment for a consultation for Obagi Nu skin, or other Obagi products.

I have read some rave reviews and some advising never to use them.

Does anyone have any experience and can offer some advice prior to my consultation?

BUMP

TwoFoldBenifit · 29/08/2015 13:29

What is Obagi Nu skin? Sounds intriguing

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 13:32

It's a system of facial creams and Retin A. It supposedly can help with patches of discolouration on the face, but I've heard it can be very harsh and cause skin peeling. I think it is also expensive

Heard about Dr Obagi products from an american woman i once met, she used it and said it was better than creme de la mer, it is a similar price and has a decnt reputation, but la mer suits me so i will stick with it, be interested to see what you think though.

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 13:39

Thank you for that Madbengalmum

I'll post back next week if my thread is still here Smile

It's sometimes worth the extra money to look after your skin. If it has good reviews.

Definitely want an update Smile

Madbengalmum · 29/08/2015 13:50

Wombat, also i go to an excellent skin specialist and it is his recommended product and he is one of the top uk specialists, so i wouldnt worry about quality issues

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 14:05

Thank you again Thanks

I posted similar. I am starting 8th September.

Scoobydoo8 · 29/08/2015 14:19

Are you talking about age spots - the brownish patches of skin on your face, hands and neck?

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 14:51

No Scooby not age spots. Melasma or a form of it. It's discolouration of the skin, usually on the face.

Guy I have gone to for Botox sells it. I bought the range but found it very harsh and my face was peeling and sore which I know is supposed to happen but I chickend out and stopped using it.

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 15:25

Tang I'll look for your thread. Do you mind me asking what products you're starting with?
Cider that's one of my concerns. How severe the peeling will be. I understand that once you get through that the skin is really good

Its nothing like creme de la mer. It's a hard core skin peel. You can either do the full on chemical peel and stay in the house for a week while your face falls off or do it the milder way (which is still very harsh) and spend 4 months looking like this.

Madbengalmum · 29/08/2015 16:08

Trucking, nobody, including me said it was like creme de la mer, please read the comments. It is priced similarly and dr zein obagi actually makes a full range of product, some of which is only moisturiser some of which is a skin peel type product.

Truckingalong · 29/08/2015 16:35

Touchy, much.

Anyway....here's the pic I was looking for.

Obagi. Anyone used them?
JeffsanArsehole · 29/08/2015 16:40

Did you have lovely skin underneath that?

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 16:45

Wow Trucking Thank you for the pic.
How was your skin after?

OP posts:
Truckingalong · 29/08/2015 16:51

Hhhmmmm, yeah, kinda but it wasn't the flawless, porcelain skin I dreamt of. I'm having laser treatment now (2 years later) to address veins and remaining pigmentation.

Wombatinabathhat · 29/08/2015 17:04

I might ask if it's worth having the laser treatment rather than the peel. My appt is Tues so I'll report back.

Thanks for the input

OP posts:
Tangfastics · 29/08/2015 18:38

Trucking, I was initially going to go with laser but was told obagi had more consistent results. Were you told the same?

Truckingalong · 29/08/2015 22:56

No but then I didn't really ask about lasers at the time. I seem to have developed thread veins in the last 6 months, so I want to tackle them as much as anything else.

Wombatinabathhat · 01/09/2015 20:16

I had my consultation today. Apparently laser is not as effective as the Obagi products and may have counter effects due to my skin tone.

I am picking up my very expensive products in a few days.

I have been told to expect some peeling for a few weeks but that my face shouldn't be sore.

Thanks for updating wombat.

Sounds like we are both starting at the same time then and that we have both received the same advice.

I know it's a bit of a slog but I think (for me) catching it earlier rather than waiting for more damage to occur is worth a few weeks of discomfort. It will be done for Christmas at least!
