3 (quick!) workwear questions please, oh wise ones...

  1. Where can I get some nice, fitted cardigans (preferably v neck, but doesn't have to be) in nice neutral colours - black, navy, dark grey? Better quality than New Look (where my current ones come from), but can't stretch to cashmere prices...
  1. How would you 'style' this dress for work in a smart/casual work environment? Shoes? Tights? I'm having a clueless moment.

I've ordered it in black and green, but can't wear bare legs for much longer in this weather, or heels at all (I can just about do a low-mid heel if its comfy).

  1. What flat shoes can one wear with dresses or straight or wide legged trousers that aren't ballet flats (which either slide off or cut shreds off my sensitive, highly arched feet).

Thank you very much Grin

If you want very plain cardigans try Uniqlo for decent quality wool but not very fashionable designs.

I'd wear that draw with black patent court shoes in the winter, or if you can't go that high, i have some patent pointed flats that I wear to work as I think they look smart enough. Perhaps some funky animal skin flats to give some personality?

Finally I wear the type of shoes I mentioned above with dresses and trousers. I'm planning on buying some pointy loafers for winter for work and some ankle boots with a not too high heel to wear with my dresses and culottes/wide leg trousers.

1 Zara or uniqlo
2 with ankle boots in black suede
3 try some ghillies with wide leg trousers??

CityBeach · 26/08/2015 22:29

Thanks florentina. i was thinking of patent or animal print pointy loafers, actually...but need to find some that are comfy and stay on!

Would you wear with tights?

Thanks Kennington!

Had no idea what ghilles were (!), but having googled these they could very well solve my ballet flat/slip-on shoe issues. Brilliant!

I have a problem with ankle boots and dresses. Long slim legs and very skinny ankles + big feet means I swim in most of them. I have a few pairs of black suede ankle boots already but they always feel a bit welly-ish on. Will keep searching, though.

Merino wool cardis from Uniqlo or House of Fraser.
Brogues or loafers with trousers.

Twolefttoes · 26/08/2015 22:37

I wear lots of shoe boots with a low heel, I too have skinny ankles so solves the flapping boots issue. They work with skirts and trousers.

I am a fan of h&m cardigans and jumpers, they don't tend to bobble.

Nice dress, shoe boots would go with it.

ChristineDePisan · 27/08/2015 03:27

I'll add Woollovers and M&S to the list of places with decent cardigans (you might need to look hard in M&S but they are still there)

I like the animal print flats / kitten heels that the dress is styled with in some of the latter pictures.

The same shoes might also be the answer to the trouser question too

Ememem84 · 27/08/2015 06:39

Second m&s. You just need to find them.

For shoes try Clarks (no...seriously). They had a few weeks ago some loafers which looked super cute.

I'd pair that dress with some flat tan ankle boots (Chelsea boots or similar) with black tights v

Next, warehouse or oasis for cardigans.

blodynmawr · 27/08/2015 07:45

Re the shoes, question 3, my sister has awkward feet and has just got these Next loafers which she loves.
Agree with twoshoes re shoe boots being the way to go for skinny ankles. Ankle boots also good - I am currently lusting after these M&S lovelies.

Ememem84 · 27/08/2015 08:03

blodynmawr those boots are ace.

Am adding them to my list.
