Mum boots? Too ugly? Or, an acceptable bargain......

After reading too much on here, I've decided I need a pair of Chelsea boots for my A/W wardrobe. I don't really want to spend too much as there will probably be lots of other things I need this season (plaid shirt, denim a line skirt, etc!)
I saw these in Sainsbury yesterday and can't decide if they are ugly or what I'm after. They were super comfortable and fit well around my skinny ankles but something held me back. Did I pick out a mum boot? I am a mum admittedly but I'm only early 30's and like to think I'm relatively stylish.
What do you think mumsnet jury?

I like them so it's a yes from me.

I suppose that they're comfy and practical (the qualities of a "mum boot") but they don't look like a mum boot to me.

MadGrumblyGnome · 26/08/2015 08:18

I like them too. With skinny jeans: not mumsy. With the dreaded bootcuts: definitely mumsy Wink

InQuiteAPickle · 26/08/2015 08:19

This or this is what comes to my mind when I hear the words Mum Boots.

PennyPants · 26/08/2015 08:21

I don't know what Mum boots are. They are classic Chelsea boots to me.

Hackersschmakers · 26/08/2015 08:24

I had these last year and am SO glad to see them back - I wore them out.

I think they look good with skinnies, and wore them with dresses.

And they're only £35!

Floisme · 26/08/2015 08:26

They look fine to me but in any cae, I wouldn't worry; once flares are back, mum boots will be The Thing.

Colaslushie · 26/08/2015 08:27

You didn't like them enough to buy them so you made the right decision IMO. Better to keep looking until you find something that you really do love.

Can't comment on the 'mumboot' thing except to say that it's often the way you wear something that makes it look either frumpy or stylish.

captainflash · 26/08/2015 08:28

Thank you! Hackers- I want them to wear with skinnies, dresses and the a line denim skirt I need to buy too. Good to hear that's what you wore yours with. Obviously the knee high boots, tan ankle boots, cowboy style boots, biker boots, Ugg style boots, brogues, etc I already own will not fill the satorial gap!
Those Clarks boots are brilliant! A lady I work with wears ones just like it. With boot cut jeans.

They look exactly like the boots my DD (16) wears to school each day ..... along with 1/2 of the girls in her year.

captainflash · 26/08/2015 08:30

Colaslushie- I didn't buy them at the time as I had a small person trying to throw herself out of the trolley and I was (shaking head in shame) wearing flared jeans and they just looked wrong. I am sure these 'midi flares' I bought in M&S are really just boot cuts they've rebranded in the hope of fooling us.
I shall go back later in my skinnier and see.

A classic chelsea boot, leather 35 quid. Buy them.

Flutterbutterfly · 26/08/2015 08:35

Oh it's a no from me, I think they are safe and remind me of what I wors as a teenager.

rosy71 · 26/08/2015 08:40

I'm not sure how on Earth Chelsea boots could be described as mum boots.

TheDovefromabove56 · 26/08/2015 08:43

They are fine but whenever I have bought supermarket / cheap High St boots I have worn them out in weeks so it might be false economy. I quite like the brown 'equestrian' boots in the side bar.

I want a pair of boots which are higher and chunkier. Something I can walk with the pram for miles in. Would it be absurd for a 36 year old to buy Doc Martens? I lived in them as a teenager.

Bonnie152 · 26/08/2015 08:56

Oh I love these! Wish I'd seen them in sainsburys last week when the 25% off was on. I'd go for it OP! Dressed with the clothes you say they will be stylish, not 'mum-ish' at all.

OnlyLovers · 26/08/2015 09:27

They look like standard Chelsea boots, and a very good price.

I think mum boots are knee-length, fleece lining/trim, slouchy round the ankle/heel.

captainflash · 26/08/2015 10:41

Right. I shall go back later without small people, in the outfit I would most likely wear them with -black leggings and slouchy jumper type dress- and see what they look like. I am currently in wellies and my fisherman's jacket (another item I didn't realise I needed until recently) so not sure it would look quite right!
Thedove- not ridiculous. I tried on some Dic Martens 'Flora' the other day but my legs are v.v skinny and I looked a bit like a golf club. But my older sister (who is 36) lives in her black lace up DM's now.

They're not the most exciting boots ever made

Squooshed · 26/08/2015 10:56

I like them but I do love a Chelsea boot.

2down1togo · 26/08/2015 18:31

I've just ordered these, thanks! Not mumsy at all I hope

beavington · 26/08/2015 22:27

Oh thanks op i might get those

Was thinking of getting these cos i prefer the look of non leather shoes/boots and cos theyre so cheap but think theyd probably give me trench foot mid winter
