  • brows tinted and shaped (can't do myself am poof, well could probably tint but ouchy cant pull out hair)
  • Hair cut coming up too (colour done separately by mobile thank GOD)
  • Nails done (last for three weeks)
  • Fake tanned.
  • Chiropodist ( twice in the summer for serious scaley hooves)

Yes, its becoming increasingly expensive and time consuming, but also increasingly necessary. Gah.

Used to have long, thick, shiny, chestnut hair that I could just wash and go, but approaching 40 I need a more polished look for work, so I dye it at home every 4-6 weeks (tyranny of roots-cover-up...but just not ready to embrace the grey yet) + the dreaded haircut (HATE the hairdressers) every 12 weeks-ish (and thats being lazy)

I was an effortless size 10. Now have to watch what I eat and exercise to keep to a reasonably un-wobbly size 12. Bor-ing.

I used to pluck my eyebrows myself, but my eyesight has gone to pot, so get them done in a salon every 4 weeks, along with the 'tache I seem to have sprouted.

Nails done weekly (dull, dull, dull), but I work with people and really need to keep my mitts looking decent.

The tyranny of fake tan and constant bloody leg shaving only happens in summer. I'm abandoning it this week, and seriously thinking about laser hair removal in the new year.

And clothes...bloody clothes. I can't just throw on any cheap shit and carry it off because I am young and slim and gorgeous. Its expensive, its boring to be honest. But its that or turn into a bag lady.

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 13:05

the charles worthington roots spray is good for those three days or so when you need the colour but cant get an appointment

lurking yes, I meant surgery!

theredlion · 26/08/2015 13:13

I tried my first microdermabrasion, great results for a first go. I'm trying to delay botox for as long as possible.

Yes it's all expensive, especially the hair, I'm trying home dying with varying degrees of success.

I find it difficult to keep on top of everything, it's like painting the Forth Bridge.

wickedwaterwitch · 26/08/2015 13:14

Pmsl at this:

"6. Clothes. This is the bastard - the older you get the more 'attractively casual' looks 'demented' while 'cool' looks 'worrying'. Ironically, what with the obsession of current designers with 12-year olds and the sports luxe lifestyle, trying to stay fashionable makes this worse. "

I have hair cut and coloured every six weeks. £££ but worth it.

This primer is excellent Imo Shu Uemura at Selfridges

wickedwaterwitch · 26/08/2015 13:14

I CBA with having my nails done

clary · 26/08/2015 13:15

Hah I never straighten mine, not keen.

I was trying to grow it tho. It's just to my shoulders atm. Maybe I should get it chopped before we go back (to school).

Argan oil, yes, have used it a bit, need to be more committed. Danger seems to be using too much and having greasy hair.

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 13:16

i am growing mine. am lasting 12 months or so.
This is good.

About two years ago I said to hairdresser that I wanted to grow my hair really long before I die.

She didnt laugh

LOVE nails

I am a new nails addict. People really notice imo

clary · 26/08/2015 13:18

What nails do we mean Brenda? Is this the gel nail polish or the thing where they use the heat lamp?

CityBeach · 26/08/2015 13:18

mwa ha ha @ 'its like painting the Forth Bridge'.

Exactly that.

I've just come back from holiday, having done the whole beauty regime beforehand, and my hands and feet are rough, face is hairy and roots are showing. I just looked at myself in the mirror and thought 'fucking hell, I've got to do it ALL again already?!'.

BabyGanoush · 26/08/2015 13:21

argh hate all this maintenance stuff

wickedwaterwitch · 26/08/2015 13:22

Lol city beach

Ikwym re nails, they do make you look polished

I had acrylics briefly but should prob have had gels - still cba though

buggerthebotox · 26/08/2015 13:24

city I get you! So far, I think I've got away quite lightly. I'm 55, and can still see my face in the mirror. Yes to the thinning lips. Where the Jeff do they go?

My pet hate is jowls. I've had a consultation for a threadlift. My skin is otherwise ok, so I've steered clear of Botox so far.

And I've got no grey! But the effort of staying slim(ish) is really soul-destroying. And clothes-particularly bloody shoes-is a nightmare. How do you look cool wearing Ecco ffs?

I shave my face tbh cos I cba with all that tweezing and plucking. It's endlessSad

theredlion · 26/08/2015 13:33

Oh yes, staying slim .
I too was a 10 and now it's a battle to stay a 12.
It's not just the weight but the distribution of it - what's up with the uneven distribution of fat?

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 13:36

i have nexgen on,
its a powder i THINK like they put on acrylics but my crap nails have got better under it, it lasts three weeks till the regrowth then they do an infill
i bloody love

OP posts:
BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 13:37

I didn't know what all the difference was, they just did it.

Similarly when I started with colour - clueless

OP posts:
woodhill · 26/08/2015 13:38

my hair is growing long but with roots, tempted to stop colouring but know I won't and it is frizzy

lurkingaround · 26/08/2015 18:45

My hair is a few inches above bra strap long. Suits me much better than short I think but my mother no likey. BBH is a godsend. I've straight hair and it adds oomph. Highlights have to be done a bit more frequently, still get about 3 months. However long more that will last. Bitching grey hairs. Bastarding crows feet.

buggerthebox do let us know how the threadlift consult goes. Anybody done Ultherapy? Expensive+++

buggerthebotox · 26/08/2015 18:54

I've had the consultation, lurking. The practitioner (a nurse) just asked me some questions and explained the procedure. It wasn't a hard sell. Cost was about £1k. I can't really justify the outlay atm, but I will probably go for it in future.

It comprises having a series of threads inserted into the face which are made of collagen. The strings are lifted and hold the flesh up in their new position by means of hooks. The threads then become part of the lifted face. Or something like that.

The practitioner also said I didn't really need it done!

In the past, I've had a treatment called Genie, which stimulates the muscles. Very labour-intensive, pricey and doesn't last (although it worked Imo).

Atm I'm just doing face exercises and trying to keep the weight off.

lurkingaround · 26/08/2015 20:27

Oh that was nice to hear buggertheb - that you don't need a lift!
Not sure I'd had the guts to do a threadlift. Guts and budget. Never say never tho.

BrendaandEddie · 26/08/2015 21:07

God if they say you don't need it, then definitely don't have it! LOL at lurking and her mother not liking hair, mothers never like hair!

OP posts:
lurkingaround · 27/08/2015 18:00

Hah! Yes! Seems like while we - and I use the term loosely - grow up, we're still children when it comes to hair and mothers.

AgathaF · 27/08/2015 18:49

sassytheFIRST have the fillers. They actually work for eye bags/tear troughs. The alternative is spending lots of money on lots of products that do absolutely fuck all.
