what are the little 5-10 minute things you do to help you feel groomed with minimal effort?

and can anyone find me a nice hairstyle? my hair is chocolate brown just belowshoulder, really thick and is just a bit shit Sad

I have a pixie cut too, and as long as I keep up with trims every 4 weeks it looks fab with very minimal effort. When my hair was long it always seemed to look untidy, even though I spent far more time doing things to it.

Eyebrows shaped regularly.

Nails tidy, filed and usually painted with a clear polish.

Small, pretty earrings (often pearl studs as they seem to brighten my face)

Polished shoes

I tend to wear dresses to work as I find they look more "put together" but with minimal effort.

For curly hair, this is my routine. I have layers cut up the back, longer at the front. That means you can ruffle the back and it looks great.

So, wash in bath and our conditioner on and leave for rest of bath. Then tangle tweeze it or comb it. Then rinse and in a towel for ten mins while you get out and dressed.

Then take off towel, turn upside down and ruffle and finger comb. Do not comb at all now. Separate into two and use three pumps of serum, I use Frizz Ease. Smooth it on the ends and lengths, it calms it down.

Then I get a cream, I got through different brands such as argan oil cream, turn back upside down and scrunch onto the ends. Then sit up and make sure the last bit goes into the front.

Sometimes I dry it with a diffuser, sometimes I don't. It looks much better if you dry with a diffuser. When it's dry tho, I then use a stiff product to hold the curl. A lot, that you could clearly see. By morning it has gone.

I find my hair to be quite dry and it does need a good product to stop it from looking frizzy. But I have been very lucky to have been blessed with hair that will go into bouncy ringlets if I cut it and treat it correctly. If the layers are longer it doesn't curl as much, hence I asked what you have and what you'd like.

Anyway I hope you have a great time experimenting with all of these fab ideas here and feel great. X

Intrigued as to what a Gibson tuck is?!

sofato5miles · 23/08/2015 19:31

Shiny, salon looking hair. I get a treatment and a blow dry done every other week. Then on my budget week, i give it a mask and blow dry with curler dryer.

Lipstick - bright. Eyebrows have the Wow Hibrow powder. No scouse brow but at 42 I need them to match my youthful looking dark hair. Earrings.

Neutral clothes and bright shoes, hand bag and / cardi.

Judydreamsofhorses · 23/08/2015 20:42

Eyebrows threaded every six weeks and tweezed in between, red lipstick, clothes set out the night before so no scrabbling about in the morning, painted nails, perfume, and washed/styled hair (I have a short Louise Brooks type bob so it needs washed every morning.)

Baconyum · 24/08/2015 01:17

I googled the Gibson tuck after seeing on here.

Found this video on YouTube:
? 2:18
www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4EdtIbV-Ag

Which seems easy to follow going to try tomorrow. I was after a new style for my long fine hair. Frankly I need highlights but as I'm on a Ltd budget I need to wait for local college to open again. They do a great job for 1/5 of the price of a salon and they're lovely.

RavioliOnToast · 24/08/2015 08:52

right, I've made a start.

yesterday, I waxed my tash, my brows and tinted my brows.

last night. I filed, buffed and painted my nails a nude colour, I also say in front of YouTube for an hour looking at easy updos and then practicing Grin

I feel more put together already! now I just need to lose a stone or two! any tips on that?

vicarinatutu · 24/08/2015 08:59

groomed for me is eyebrows waxed, finger nails painted with clear varnish and toenails painted professionally, hair cut every 6 weeks or so.

and cleansing toning and moisturising. if my skin is glowing i can do without makeup for a quick run to tesco.

Baconyum · 25/08/2015 18:39

Hmm yes the weight thing, I'm overweight and unfit too. Broke right now but when money better gonna get back to swimming. I'm walking more and eating less crap (hopefully) Grin

Yes I've also got back into a routine of cleansing and moisturising.

AWONI · 25/08/2015 19:55

Basic grooming for me: BB cream plus mascara, tidy eyebrows, bit of lip balm. I do a basic manicure every week so my nails are always shiny and tidy. Even if my hair's just in a bun or a pony tail, if my face and my nails are ok, I feel pulled together. I have 3 DCs and work and often this is all I can manage!

RavioliOnToast · 25/08/2015 21:43

I've practiced 2 hair styles today, I need to find some plaited headband things though as I just have plain elastic ones at the minute which I use when I wash my face Grin

I've also decided That as soon as my nails chip, I'm going to take it all off and redo them, and will only use acetone free Polish remover as my acetone dries my hands and nails really bad

I need to do my toes tomorrow, cba tonight. still not sure what to do about my hair so I might leave it for now

Love this thread Grin.
I am mid forties.
Chopped off the unflattering mum bob and got a pixie cut earlier this year.

Get hair cut and coloured at salon every 6 weeks.
Eyebrow plucking regularly at home - tidy every few days so keeps under control.
Moisturise face and body after shower every morning.
Leg waxing - do myself at home with sugaring kit off Amazon. Mainly do in summer as have no issue being yeti like over winter.
Weight - I don't do diets or self denial but I love exercising. Find something you like and stick to it. I recommend Jillian Michaels DVDs. I do them 4-5 days a week if feeling really motivated, 3-4 otherwise. I drop a dress size easily within 3-4 weeks when in the groove. Pixie cut conducive to regular exercise as easy to maintain etc

absolutelynotfabulous · 27/08/2015 13:48

Another pixie cut here. Easy. Otherwise:

full slap
nails
comfy but reasonably well-thought-thru basics (no trakkies etc).

Usually boots, not shoes, so not much shaving.

PennyPants · 27/08/2015 14:11

Once a week;
Manicure
Pedicure
Face mask/scrub
Body scrub
Deep condition hair

Every other day;
Shave
Fake tan

Every day;
Moisturise or suncream
Hair
Make-up
Wear nice clean clothes that fit/suit/I like.

Cut every 8 weeks and a few highlights about 4 times a year.

These are all really good ideas. I have a boat load of shower gels/body scrubs/body butters from Christmas still! I've literally bought none this year! Think tonight I'll epilate, scrub, tan, and have a hair mask. On Monday I'm gonna use the purederm exfoliating socks, my feet are terrible and I can't afford the chiropodist, or footner so I thought I'd give these a go! Anyone tried them?
