What constitutes a blouse these days?

I've been offered a new job (yay!) and the dress code states a white blouse. To me 'blouse' means something with buttons but my mum says anything that's not a t shirt is a blouse. Who is right?

I've bought this but don't know if it's too casual.

Depends on what the job is?

It's a medical secretary at a GP practice. Not front of house.

No I don't think it's too casual in that case, but I think something less boxy would be better.

I pretty much agree with your mum. And I think that's a perfectly good blouse.

To me, a blouse is a feminine, at least semi-formal top that has some billow/movement to it (i.e. not tight-fitting like a tank top or highly structured like a shirt). What you've posted there is a blouse.

to me a blouse is a blouse eg with buttons.

I'd get something cheap like this and then if you don't need it for the job it's not so expensive as to be a waste of money.
