Where to buy ethical and reasonably priced clothes from?

I need to wean myself off the cheap sweatshop clobber I clothe myself in.

But desperately need some affordable suggestions of more ethical brands. I'm not loaded, but I do work full time. Have tried charity shops in the past but with little luck. Also don't have time to do that any more!

So I'm not looking at high end organic woven by gleeful cherubs kind of clothes, just ones where workers have decent working conditions and fair pay.

Thanks! Smile

Such a good question, I really wish there was more ethical fashion available that still looks good, so much of it just looks frumpy. www.gatherandsee.com has an interesting selection of brands is great for more on trend pieces. :-)

Second Nomads Clothing.

Yes I just popped on to say nomads too - their latest mini brochure arrived in this mornings post and I was reminded how much I like (most of) their stuff. Its a bit fatface/white stuff style, so be warned if you don't like that style! (I love it). Nomads mostly cotton and they do have sale stuff available a lot of the time Smile. I try to support them as they are local to where I live, although the clothes aren't made here.

Beaumont Organic

luva huva has the most beautiful ethical underwear.
Handmade in England from off cuts, organic cotton and bamboo.
It is soft and seriously beautiful.

I really really really really like me&i - scandi brand with great ethical values. See www.meandi.com/uk/pages/1140/1821/1822/default.aspx

However it is only sold through house parties (like tupperware or Jamie Oliver stuff), and you ideally need a seller nearby. I don't sell but one of the main UK bods is in my town. Not cheap. But good values.

Braintree
Mudd and Water

I am currently dressed head to toe in Howies, I get a lot of stuff from them.

Airr stocks a lot of nice ethical brands

Wow £40 for a T-shirt from Finisterre. That is a lot of money!

Robertaquimby · 02/09/2015 09:25

I have bought quite a lot of Seasalt stuff. Organic cotton, based in Cornwall. Quite like Fatface but better quality and good for casual work clothes.

Monsoon used to rank well on ethical/environment friendly clothes manufacture, so that might be an option? M&S were also the best of a bad bunch a few years back. Been a while since I looked into it.

tweedles1511 · 06/09/2015 21:10

The best organic cotton I have found is at Kowtow - super soft and really cool styles. Living in their basics range at the moment - especially good in pregnancy. The difference between what they produce and what you can get at H&M is massive, though it is a bit more expensive (well its Fair Trade). They have a few stockists in UK including Gather&See who also have Beaumont Organic.
