Micellar water

What does it do? I bought a big bottle of Garnier Micellar water half price but don't think it is good enough on its own to remove make up.I think someone else uses it after the BS camomile butter to remove all last traces of oil. Is it astringent like Nip and Fab? What is it made up of? Who uses it and in what way?

MeganChips what toner are you using out of interest?

0pheliaBalls · 20/08/2015 16:29

I started using the Garnier one three months ago and it's my HG cleansercleanser, my skin has never looked better. My face was constantly spotty and dry before and had been for years - it's completely cleared up now and is lovely and soft. I only pay £2.99 a bottle for it and one lasts me two months so it's way cheaper than pretty much all my previous cleansers. I can see that it's diluted soap though - when you shake the bottle it foams up like billyo.

I've been using the bioderma one for months now and love it. Removes all my make up and leaves skin really soft. The little travel bottle is great for weekends away as it's all you need to remove eye and face make up. I use sun block daily though so will usually double cleanse with the bioderma as a first cleanse and just use bioderma in the morning to get rid of any grease accumulated in the night. I haven't tried any of the cheaper ones that have come out recently. I'd rather just stock up on the bioderma when it's on offer.

I'm onto my third bottle of the Garnier one and I love it. It removes my makeup well and my skin is clear and feels very soft. I stockpiled the stuff when it was half price at Tesco but will definitely buy more when my pile runs out.

I do love the garnier micellar water but only use it when I'm tired or rushed as an alternative to my normal cleansers. I use it in place of the wipes I used to use which were as we now know, dreadful, for your skin.

Floisme · 20/08/2015 23:20

0phelia is right, I have just given my (soon to be jettisoned) bottle a shake and it looks just like soapy water. No wonder it stung! What a gullible twat I am.

MeganChips · 21/08/2015 22:13

Lady the toner I'm using is just FAB facial radiance pads.

WeMissYouHissedTheLovecats · 22/08/2015 00:10

Madara one has a bit of lactic and hylaronic acids in it, so I use it to remove last traces of oil cleansing and act as both an acid and hydrating toner.

MountainDweller · 22/08/2015 23:44

I found the garnier one irritated my eyelids too, even the sensitive one.

I have the REN one and love it, but £££ so not sure if I would buy it (was a gift).

Like others I use it for make up removal and follow with a face wash or oil cleanser.

As promised I'm back! I also tested some other things to make sure the papers were working as they should.

The ph balance of garnier micellar water is 6. It's the 3rd from the left in the picture.

On the left is tap water at ph 7.
Then imperial leather soap at ph10/11.
Then garnier micellar at ph 6.
Then boots skin clear deep blackhead cleansing lotion at ph 5.

I struggled to get a picture that showed a true representation of the colours but hopefully you get the gist.

Staying true to my username here Lady but what does that mean?

Is a pH of 6 good?

PS. Thanks for reporting back!

LadyErrant · 27/08/2015 20:06

Well to be completely honest I'm not entirely sure! It indicates that it isn't alkaline or soapy water which is a good thing. I'm currently googling but I think it would be necessary to use an acid toner after to bring the ph balance back down to a more normal level. Snow White and the Asian pears blog has an article that mentions that the ideal breeding ground for acne is ph 6 - 6.5. I'm not sure what ph level an acid toner would need to be though....back to google

WhyAmISoDaft · 27/08/2015 20:25

Hmm, interesting.

Do report back again!

I get spots from time to time (especially monthly hormonal ones) and didn't think of it as a possible pH issue...

LadyErrant · 28/08/2015 11:40

Google tells me that an acid toner should be between PH 3-4.

I think that so longs as an acid is used straight after then the micellar water is ok to use but I'll probably look for a lower PH cleanser to replace it.

WhyAmISoDaft · 28/08/2015 12:37

Thanks Lady. Good research skills!

penny13610 · 28/08/2015 19:32

All very similar to what my grandmother used www.boots.com/en/Boots-Traditional-Glycerin-and-Rosewater-200ml_1225246 followed by witch-hazel
Skin PH is about 5.5. I like your style lady , obviously we all need litmus strips in the bathroom.
