What will you be wearing this autumn?

I've recently had twins, I'm in desperate need of a shopping trip. I have enough to make do with for the rest of the so called summer so I'm thinking of a/w wear.

Any of you planned your wardrobes yet or have any ideas what will be in? After months of maternity wear I've forgotten what suits me.

I'm on a low budget due to mat pay.

I love the capes. Also very tempted by those!

avocadotoast · 14/08/2015 05:16

I went in Primark the other week and they've got lots of thin autumnal-looking loose jumpers in grey/black/other muted colours. I picked a couple up to wear with skinny jeans as weather gets cooler.

(If you're not into Primark I'm sure nicer shops will sell them too Wink.)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/08/2015 08:03

Rosey - I have burgundy jeans from M&S but I find them quite hard to wear. I think they make me look much bigger than black ones do, although it might be because they are a tiny bit too big for me too. I can't see them on the website now though, sorry.

QueenCardigan · 14/08/2015 08:16

You may need a big try on session as what suited you before May not now as your body may have changed slightly.

If you've just had twins you will need practical washable clothing. Boring I know, but the first thing you will need if pushing the buggy over the winter is a decent coat and boots/trainers.

I love gap jeans as they fit me. I wear real straight or slim straight although I've just also bought skinny flares. I tend to wear tops/blouses instead of tees as these suit me better and don't go out of shape. I get these from anywhere-uniqlo, esprit, next, whitevstuff, Fat face.

If you want to wear jumpers or cardigans then Uniqlo are good quality for the price.

Get a heatech top from uniqlo and you can wear this under tops during the winter to keep you extra warm.

avocadotoast · 14/08/2015 08:34

Uniqlo t-shirts are pretty good too. I got a couple and they're quite thin but also loose and flattering (I hate a thick t-shirt!). And if you get light grey it hides baby sick pretty well...

quirkychick · 14/08/2015 09:08

Yy to heattech tops from uniqlo, also their leggings are great under jeans on really cold days out and about with the buggy/school run/parks etc. Good boots and warm/waterproof coat (the holy grail!). I really discovered the need for weatherproof clothes once I had children.

I wear lots of grey too, also navy and burgundy/berry shades.

I might need a check, wool scarf, furry gilet (if I can find a flattering one).

H&M long vests are excellent for layering, and cheap! Good for bf as well as easy to change when covered in baby sick etc.

Roseybee10 · 14/08/2015 09:14

I have super skinny legs and a thicket waist so find jeans quite hard to find grrr.
I'm going to have a quick peek in the shops today to see if I can pick up a few pieces. Just sold some stuff on eBay so I have a bit of money and wardrobe space lol.

quirkychick · 14/08/2015 11:40

New Look jeans were recommended on the apple/inverted triangle shape thread a while back.

I have some next, gap and mint velvet jeans that all fit well, I have long, slim legs and not much waist definition too. hth

TheImprobableGirl · 14/08/2015 12:17

Is bottle green making an appearance this year? I wear a lot of black which is nicely broken up by bottle green :)

BoskyCat · 14/08/2015 12:31

I'm getting to the point now where I'm fed up of this "summer" and really looking forward to proper cold weather and autumn wear.

I like wearing tights and boots with an interesting print or colour mini or knee-length skirt or dress, worn with a cardie or jumper. I have several of these but will be making a couple of new skirts.

Or a plain, fine-knit jumper dress - the ultimate cosy and comfortable autumn/winter wear. Am excited because I recently bagged a really nice Toast one off ebay and can't wait to wear it.

I have some nice knee-length boots but am still on the search for the perfect shorter boots. I got some online last year and the toe shape wasn't really what I wanted (too pointy) and it bugged me all winter. But I wore them a lot so can now justify some new ones!

I will also fling on jeans with a cosy jumper some days, but tights and boots make me feel so autumny.

quirkychick · 14/08/2015 12:35

My tweed (ancient from topshop) jacket is bottle/forest green, I also have an Ilse Jacobsen thin raincoat in forest green that I can just about still wear in autumn before it gets too chilly. Also love a bit of teal/seagreen/mallard. Quite like it with soft purples too. Very autumnal.

Am just about to look at the plumo autumn catalogue; for inspiration only as quite pricey. But a girl can dream earmark for the sales.

quirkychick · 14/08/2015 13:02

Ooh Bosky, I have an old (4-5yrs) toast jumper dress I bought in a sale, it is fab and still as good as new. Burgundy too.

There seems to be lots of big, chunky cardis around for a/w which I love but can be hard to wear under a coat. (I also already have 2 grey "coatigans" for want of a better word). I find I can only wear them on warmer, drier autumn days.

Lots of coloured faux fur too. Which looks cosy.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 14/08/2015 13:03

a burlap sack.

BoskyCat · 14/08/2015 13:45

Ooh yes love a nice coatigan. I have a Bench wool one with a hood (which also manages not to have BENCH all over it in massive letters, luckily) and it's great with jeans – and a forest green Boden one.

Actually re post-pregnancy, I had a fabulous coatigan from Gap that was wrapover with a tie belt instead of having a zip or buttons. It worked very well during pregnancy as it grew with me and then was also perfect afterwards as it was so adjustable, and flattering as it gave me a waist where it tied. Sadly I wore it to shreds so no longer have it, but something like that might be a good buy for you OP.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 14/08/2015 13:50

In all seriousness, I'm not planning to buy much, as am losing weight atm. And off to Oz in Feb so will hit the summer sales there. I do need a fab new pair of black knee high boots though!

quirkychick · 14/08/2015 15:02

Bosky you just reminded me of a chocolate brown monsoon one I wore to shreds with 1st pg and after!

I have a grey merino one from celtic & co (or celtic sheepskin as it was then), was a sale bargain and is still going strong. They have some gorgeous ones this a/w as do plumo. I also have a blue/grey mohair one too.

Post pg you could also go for accessories as they don't need to adjust to your changing body (unless you just snapped back to pre-pg shape...). I have a Mongolian furry scarf that dp bought me which is great for dressing up any cardi/jacket and super warm too. Lots of faux fur scarves around in lots of lovely autumnal colours.

Love hats too. I have quite a few beanie/knitted ones, trapper hats look great but don't do me any favours. I'm contemplating a fedora, but you can't bung them in your bag, can you?

PennyPants · 14/08/2015 17:14

Similar to last A/W;
Dresses, cardies, tights, boots
Skirts, tops/layers, tights, boots
Jeggings/jeans, tops, boots.
various knitwear on top if needed.

I have lots of boots (ankle, long and Uggs) and jackets of varying degrees of warmth already which makes A/W so easy. Much easier and more stylish than summer.

Roseybee10 · 14/08/2015 20:03

Just bagged myself some eBay bargains :-)
Burgundy jeans for 99p and a raspberry midi dress for £3.50.
Yay.

burnishedsilver · 14/08/2015 20:10

These 'what will you be wearing' threads always make me think of The Fast Show.

Judydreamsofhorses · 14/08/2015 21:24

Navy and black skinny jeans.
Chelsea and biker boots.
Blouses, I have some pussybows already but will be on the hunt for more, and just regular shirt-style. I like these with round-neck jumpers over them when it's really cold.
Dresses with opaques and cardigans, either black or coloured opaques depending on the dress.
Lots of mustard - it's my absolute favourite.
My Whistles dungarees with polo necks under them - in summer it's been stripy tops - and boots.
Brogues.
Faux fur coats - I have three and love them so much.
Big chunky blanket scarves - I have a plaid one from Zara men's bit from last year and it is SO cosy.

It feels like autumn today here - freezing and lashing rain!

Roseybee10 · 14/08/2015 22:04

It's never become summer here!! I've been in uggs most of the 'summer'.
