I have done the bra intervention thing on my two DDs after reading about it here and doing it on myself. DD2 in particular needed to move from a "fashion bra" to a well fitting bra. They cost a bloody fortune and require a trip to a lovely little lingerie shop but they are worth every penny. She does look a bit wistful when we pass through the underwear department in a shop especially when DD1 can buy from anywhere.

tvlover1234 · 10/08/2015 20:55

Primark where I am go past DD. Used to get my32FF in there when I had implants

tvlover1234 · 10/08/2015 20:57

And I can vouch for boux avenue for sizing. Found them pretty spot on. I thought I was a B or C cup when I had my implants removed. Turns out I'm a 34DD!! And that is in pretty much every shop. Some I have to go to 34D. I usually take both sizes in and always try on.

dun1urkin · 10/08/2015 21:02

I was one of those girls. I was massively spilling out of a C cup with really obvious 6 boob etc (age 14) and had had a battle with my mum to even allow me a wired bra.
I eventually took myself off to the bra shop and came out in an E.
My mum was properly embarrassed by my wonderboobs when I was a teenager....
When I was 17 she spoke to a 'nurse friend' and delightedly told me I could have a reduction in the NHS. I asked her what made her think I wanted a reduction Hmm
Based on my experience, I think that sometimes it's ignorance on the part of the child and the parents' unwillingness to acknowledge their child is growing up.
PS My mum hasn't commented on my boobs since the reduction episode Grin

I see so many adult women with this problem too. And major jiggle when they walk!

It's hard not to stage an intervention. Can't we all share the Better Bra Campaign blog link on Facebook or something to spread the word?

stripytees · 10/08/2015 21:17

Also every time there's an advert for bras on the M&S Facebook page, lots of women comment to say "why don't you do bigger than 40 band?" or "there's never a 40C in stock in my local store". Noooo, you are not a 40 band or bigger, lady!

Flame · 10/08/2015 21:23

I've gone all evangelical about bra fitting lately. The right fitting one is essential, but seeing as the majority of grown women don't wear the right size, teens are never going to manage it.

afink · 10/08/2015 21:49

As a teen, I resolutely worse a 36B for years, convinced that it was the right size because, well, that was the size that most of my mates wore. When I went off to uni, I graduated to 36Cs, and I remember everyone being wowed by the fact that I wore a C cup because that was a HUGE size. I am actually a 32GG. I must have been a bit smaller then, but I would hazard a guess that I was a 30FF. I think teenage girls just have no idea about this sort of thing so they stick to whatever sounds roughly average.

diploddycus · 10/08/2015 22:24

tvlover - 34DD's are available in most shops but that doesn't mean they fit. I'd bet most people wearing a boux avenue, h&m or primark 34DD should be in a 30FF (or thereabouts)

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 10/08/2015 22:26

What even is Boux avenue.

OP posts:
tvlover1234 · 10/08/2015 22:28

I didn't say they weren't. I'm just saying bouzouki avenue if very good at measuring and I'm now a 34DD after removing my breast implants which seem easier to find. Although primark does do larger sizes. (32FF my old size) box avenue is a lingerie shop.

tvlover1234 · 10/08/2015 22:29

I wish I was a 30FF with my now fat back lmao. Gone up from a 10 - 12. Lmao.

tvlover1234 · 10/08/2015 22:29

Boux avenue *!! Bloody phone

Weebirdie · 10/08/2015 22:36

I dont know about teens wearing the wrong size but I was until I went to Debenhams in Swansea a few days ago and was fitted with a bra that I think was made for me.

Its so unlike the other lacy underwired ones I was wearing before that I can laugh about it instead of laughing what I now wear - the Doreen by Triumph. And its true what the saleslady said - it does make me look like Madonna!

diploddycus · 10/08/2015 22:37

Bouzouki avenue Grin

I'm a boring bravissimo lass but I seen a lovely bra in my size for a tenner in BA but it didn't fit Sad I can never find pretty bras.

sonata1 · 10/08/2015 23:40

Triumph Doreen. Now that's a blast from the past. My very first bra when I was 12. Circle stitched. Apparently they are all the rage now. Too bad they don't do a 30F in them.

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 10/08/2015 23:43

Roar at bouzouki. Grin

I went to H&M, Top Shop and New Look yesterday and only found a couple of D cups. There were no 32 D but lots of 34 B.

diploddycus · 11/08/2015 11:57

On the boux avenue website it says "model wears 32C" when she ain't no 32 anythin'!

The H&M says to add on 6in Shock to your underbust measurement so no wonder it's full of 34's!

LIZS · 11/08/2015 18:13

Can I ask for a quick intervention please on behalf of dd, back 25"/cups leaning forward 28". We've tried an unstructured cotton 28AA from m and s (yes I know but limited physical shops around here let alone one with weeny sizes!) , back seems tight on 3rd hooks and some exposed flesh between underarm and cup. It is not uncomfortable per se, but somehow doesn't look right.

cremedecacao · 11/08/2015 18:40

LIZS, 28AA seems too small in the cup, that's probably why it feels tight, as a 25" back would really need a 26" band! Try a 28B or C perhaps. M&S bras are fine, as long as you don't get measured there!
