Shoes for painful heels! I think it is plantar fasciitis

I have not had a diagnosis yet, but Dr Google seems to think I have plantar fasciitis.

Can anyone suggest good supportive brands and styles I might wear to help ease the pain? I am happy with Clarks or more conservative styles - I teach at an FE college so am on my feet a bit and I am nearly 50 and not very fashion conscious :)

Thanks!

And the leather uppers are so soft. Never had sandals before that didn't need to be worn in because of rubbing straps and uppersy

OP your feet sound like mine, I reckon miy problem is tendonitis in the achilles tendon. No real problems during the day but stiffness and some pain in the morning and if I sit still for any length of time. For me starting to diet has brought a very rapid improvement - 10lb down 50% better. I also do heel lifts and the exercise on the edge of the step when it plays up.

So pleased to have found this thread. I developed heel pain about a week ago and now think it must be linked to charging around London in ballet pumps during a busy fortnight at work. French sole ballet pumps, but I expect that they are as unsupportive as £10 pumps if you wear them for long enough!

I have just ordered some fit flops in the sale and I'll be doing the recommended exercises. Nice one, ladies!

Fit flops gave me arch pain that didn't clear up for months and months after I stopped wearing them btw.

This was before the PF.

A thread seems to pop up every month. Not sure if it's an age as in i.e. I'm getting older and older people get it so I notice it more or thing or a thing of this time as in lots more people are getting it these days because of the fashion for pumps or the populations weight increase or whatever.

I had custom made orthotics made a few years ago for PF and painful knees. The podiatrist that did my gait assessment and fitted the orthotics said they always have a clinic full of women in the autumn who have spent the summer in flip-flops and/or ballet pumps. He told me they were a complete no-no with PF. Like Chish I have gradually phased out my unsupportive shoes and replaced them with more supportive ones, or larger fitting ones that can accommodate my orthotics.

Lots of people find wearing crocs around the house really helps. Don't bother with a GP. Go see a podiatrist or a specialist shoe store that offers a service like this.

I wear fleece-lined crocs at home and, weirdly, they do help. They don't look like they have a lot of support, but they seem to be just the right shape.

Thanks, dustbunny - so the fashion for flip flops in places other than the beach, and pumps the last good few years.
