Do I need to apply sun lotion even if my makeup is spf 15?

Unless you slather your moisturiser on like you should sun cream (doubt it) then it's not the same at all.

1. Your make up is unlikely to be broad spectrum (protect from both UVA & UVB rays)

2. The SPF rating is tested by applying it as thickly as you would a sun product, so unless you are truly troweling it on (teaspoon of foundation on your face?), you won't be getting the full 15 as reported on the packaging. Same with normal sun protection, if you don't use the recommended amounts, you won't achieve the advertised SPF rating.

I use a moisturiser and make up with spf 15 in, spent the day in the sun and only the bit of my forehead near my hairline where there was no make up or moisturiser got a bit burnt. So it's definitely working for me although I do agree with previous posters who say that for protecting skin against ageing that a proper spf is needed

YES! You ought to be using spf 30 at least on your face and unless you apply foundation in the same quantity as sun screen - and as often- then it won't last 8 hours.

It won't clog pores but it might be a bit gloopy if using under foundation. I use either Clinique City Block spf 40 or Estee Lauder Day Lotion SPF 50, or Sunsense 50 - it's tinted. Boots No 7 do a dark spot preventer which is about £12 and isn't bad. And don't forget your neck! I did and my face is unlined but my neck is another story....

I've been wondering the same lately. Think I need to step up my beauty regime! Are you supposed to put the sun screen on before moisturising or after?

spf makeup/moisturiser is a huge con. Don't believe me? Believe the British association of dermatologists.

we are five weeks after peak UV. Teaspoon of factor 30 or more on your face, every few hours, more if sweating. If you trowel on the slap like that you'd be an oompa-loompa.

I bought Clinique CityBlock 40 today. I liked how it didn't feel like sunscreen. I can't find a dermatologist's review but the lady in the White coat said it would protect all day. 31 and I've never used facial sunscreen...am hoping to try to make amends (or just stop the damage getting worse). Should I be reapplying through the day?
