Gel nail help, please

Hi, I have bought myself a three week nail kit and tonight did my own nails for the first time - not a bad effort, either.

I have approx ten colours in my kit (bought second hand) but only like around three of them.

Will I need to stick to this brand of gel polish, or can I mix and match with whatever is on special offer?

Itsbetter, I am 99% sure I have bought it from Sally's in the past. The only product they've ever refused to sell to me as non trade was a large bottle of 12% peroxide. I've also bough polishes from various websites - I'm sorry but they don't all ask for proof of being trade or having qualifications at all. And I don't just mean ebay sellers.

And being able to go on to amazon and buy something on next day prime delivery is hardly going out of my way to source professional products. Like it or not these are readily available to the public. Amazon is about as mainstream as you get these days. I'm sure if CND/Gellux etc were that bothered about it they would find a way to limit these sellers.

gellux sold by and dispatched from amazon

You cannot buy gel polish from Sally's without a trade card. The only ones they stock in store are Gelish, artistic colour gloss and an own brand. All you need a trade card for.
Like I said authorised sellers need proof of qualifications.
There are some non authorised sellers out there. I didn't argue that there aren't. Amazon sellers making a big profit do exist yes.

passmethewineplease · 27/07/2015 23:57

I used to work for Sally's, you can't buy gelish without a trade card but all that meant was you would borrow someone else's card to buy. A lot even borrowed their techs card! Which I always thought was a bit weird on their part...

I don't see why people get so annoyed about it really, they have sold hair products for years and hair salons are everywhere still as well as mobile stylists.

I don't see the issue with a looky likely tbh like I said previously it's not different to what the likes of aldi do is it?

rockybalboa · 28/07/2015 00:14

Yup, these days my life is food from
Aldi and DIY Bluesky gel. Used to be a salon Gelish every 3 weeks and shopping delivered by Ocado but hey ho, things change! Good luck OP, I hope you are getting on ok with your kit. This thread has derailed a bit...

So blue sky isn't really evil stuff? I'm pretty sure I saw that on the bottle when having my first ever gel on toe nails the other day. I'm booked in for fingernails on sat- should I avoid?

passmethewineplease · 29/07/2015 21:06

I wouldn't avoid how. I'm on a group and the techs do a fantastic job and rave about it. Can honestly say I've never encountered a problem myself.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/07/2015 21:18

Howaboutthisone
Yes Its best to avoid. Any nail tech who actually cares about their clients and their industry would not use Bluesky.

rockybalboa · 29/07/2015 21:57

I wouldn't avoid. I'm happy to use Bluesky on myself and would be happy if a nail tech used it on me.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/07/2015 22:11

That doesn't mean a nail tech should use it just because some clients don't care. A lot of nail bars use MMA acrylic which is toxic and many customers don't know or care but it doesn't make it ok.

passmethewineplease · 29/07/2015 22:11

Rocky I wonder if you're on the same FB group I am?!

Howaboutthisone · 29/07/2015 22:54

Thanks I think! I'm a little confused now as to whether the stuff is toxic?! I'm assuming not as some are happy to use? But then there are some very strong feelings against it!

BlueberryMuffins76 · 31/07/2015 05:00

I use a mix of Bluesky (from Amazon) & Gellux (from beauty trade store, family member has a card for her business). Both are fine!

passmethewineplease · 31/07/2015 16:07

Don't worry, blue sky even had a stand at the beauty show last year, do you think they'd get one of their products were actually toxic or poisonous?!

itsbetterthanabox · 31/07/2015 17:43

That doesn't prove much. Arbonne and younique have stands at beauty shows. Doesn't mean they are reputable products/companies.

rockybalboa · 31/07/2015 21:44

Itsbetterthan: What?!? Yes, Arbonne and Younique have highly dubious selling techniques but that doesn't make their products toxic and unsafe for use which you are suggesting is the case with Bluesky. It's completely disingenuous to make such a comparison.

HorsesDogsNails · 31/07/2015 22:29

itsbetterthanabox, I hear you. The shows should look beyond who's offering ££.... What brand do you use? I use CND l+p, OPI GelColor, Lecente glitters and MoYou stamping....
