Flattering sports clothes

I haven't done much sport for a while after developing mobility problems a few years back. I am now quite a bit better and want to get going again. I am supposed to be going on a sports holiday in a couple of weeks and I am not sure what clothes to buy. However I am no longer a size 12 so I am not sure what will look best. It is also likely to be well over 30C where I am going so I don't want to cover up more than I have to because of the heat. On the other hand I am a bit flabby of thigh and large of nork and need to work around that.

I am going to attempt some light tennis, yoga and pilates, and also some water sports. I am about a size 16 (top) 18 (bottom), pear-shaped with a good waist, and have 34G norks. I also need decent trainers as I have some plantarfasciitis and a foot ligament problem at the moment, but shoe technology has come on and again, I am not sure what to buy.

I am after a couple of flattering sports outfits that will mix and match and give me a bit of confidence, if anyone has any ideas.

that link is for briefs - if you mean the matching top, it doesn't even fit the model and there's clearly a lot of sticky tape involved in that photo...

Ok, struggling to find a rash vest and bikini top that can cope with 34FF norks (I don't think I am 34G any longer) that match the red and white Trespass board shorts I have ordered. Any ideas??

er...the colours really do not matter!

BoffinMum · 25/07/2015 19:26

No? Last time I did anything like this I don't think board shorts or light rash vests to be work on their own even existed. People had wet suits or Speedo swimsuits. I am just not sure about what looks right now given the sheer choice everywhere.

I know this is S and B but believe me, you will not be the laughing stock of the resort for different colours in your outfit! In fact many people wear it like that deliberately.

practicality - kit that stays on, keeps the sun off and lets you enjoy the water.

Fair enough.

Right, shopping has happened. Like, real shopping with trying on and shops n'that.

I have got a special turquoise and white technical tennis t-shirt to match the magiSculpt Skapri bottoms and hoodie set.

I also have a new yoga outfit from Manuka with soft grey floppy leggings about mid-calf, and a t-shirt that says inhale on the front and exhale on the back. Very tasteful.

Then board shorts from Mountain Warehouse in navy with green trim. About £6 down from £25 as they had a massive sale on.

Finally, and this is the exciting bit, I went to Hobbs in Cambridge and they did gait analysis with film, which was really instructive, and I got special trainers to stop pronation. Very expensive but really feel great on. DH even found me some matching kinesiology tape in the same colour! And they all match the tennis gear!! GrinGrinGrin

Nearly there now. Just need rash best and sports bra, maybe even a new swimsuit if I see one.

Very excited about doing some sport again! Apart from skiing and the very occasional workout, I have pretty much been on the sofa since 2008.

Tis true that a matchy outfit makes you look like a novice.....you can spot all the new runners with their new matchy outfits out in January.Smile
Bras - do you want something high impact for tennis - I'd try enell - those puppies won't move, it's not attractive but its very supportive. Prettier bras with good support can be found with panache or the shock absorber run bra.

in real sports it is being a novice that makes you look like a novice, not what you are wearing.

I take your point about matching gear and until recently I possessed the world's mankiest Barbour jacket on the grounds that New Is Bad and Uncool, but for the sport thing, I did fancy kitting myself out with colourful stuff instead of the saggy black threadbare stuff I have been attempting to wear on exercise excursions of late. It does look nice on and I don't look too much of a tennis ingenue (I can actually play, just haven't been able to walk much for 7 years).
