Is a bob inevitable for fine/thin/flat hair?

Does anyone with thin/fine straight hair have a hairstyle that isn't a bob (assuming you're not elfin featured enough for a pixie cut)?

I've had a bob (no fringe) for decades and am utterly bored of it. Looking for inspiration from those on the 'thin' side...

I'm feeling like I'm bringing joy to many with that pic. A Hairy Godmother. Grin

I like this style but would it work with 'flimsy' hair?

I like that too, but I'd say you'd need volume.

Mine is assymetric, like a bob on one side and short on the other side done with clippers, it's hard to explain, but most of my hair is on the long side so it adds body.

I think it depends on your clothing style though, I'm a converse and jeans kind of girl

Mmmmmm , I will keep looking ! Smile

I'll PM you a pic. I also have thin straight boring hair but I've gone short (despite chubby chops) and I love it.

Ok, maybe not, as I can't seem to send pics. Never mind!

Oh mine's really similar to Skoda's picture. I hardly ever use product, maybe a tiny bit of wax if going out to bring more definition and get the flicky bits to work. Otherwise it's a 2 min blow dry job.

Mewling - I'd say shoulder length hair with shorter layers at the front suits my face best, I had that style for a few years 10-15 years ago. But I had to wash and blow dry every day and use lots of root spray so not an option now (see earlier post re scalp eczema). Also my hairs thinner post dd so can't really do that length now.

I feel like I've got volume at the sides but not the crown, not very flattering. I need something low maintenance to fit with 6am weekday starts too...

Have a hair appt in diary next week. Will discuss side fringes and crown volume. Thanks all, will keep your posts in mind if I lose courage :)

I have hair just like you and have done bog all with my hair for years. I saw the hairdresser on Tues and said she could do what she liked (she came v highly recommended) but to at least do something with it.

She said she was tempted to go short because it would add volume and texture but she thought it would be too much of a shock so she would build up to it over the course of a few cuts if I thought I liked it shorter.

She has cut my hair in a way I can't really describe. It is about an inch below my chin at its longest part and down to my ear lobe at its shortest. I don't know how she managed it but it naturally flicks out if I blow dry it a certain way. She also showed me how to style it with straighteners for a sleeker look and what to do with back combing for a completely different style.

I am amazed that she achieved so much with thin, fine, dull hair.

It's definitely not a bob. I think it's clever layering and some weight taken out in places and some cutting in. It's clever. It's really clever.

Rax, That's sounds great but is hard to visualise. Any chance of uploading a pic? Can I ask if it takes a lot of upkeep (styling-wise)? Also, would it grow out really uneven if I changed my mind? Thanks :)
