If you don't do black, what about shoes?

I had my colours done a while ago and am a summer, so no black.

Can't say I'm 100% convinced about the colours making my eyes pop etc, but I do enjoy the fact that I've learned how to put colours together and that everything in my wardrobe works with everything else now. I have fewer clothes but more outfits IYSWIM

However, I was always a black shoes kind of person and owned black flats, heels and boots. I like coloured shoes but I'm finding I need a lot and still often don't have the right ones. What am I doing wrong? I can put different colours together in the outfit itself, but to add a colour for shoes makes it look like they came out of the dressing up box!

If you have the summer muted palette then ptesumably your neutrals are grey and navy, so wouldn't these work for shoes and match most of your outfits?

Googlers123 · 10/07/2015 16:01

Having said that, I don't think I'd completely give up black shoes if I were you, there's a place for them and as long as they're not really clashing with a very very soft coloured outfit, they'd be fine.

ShirleySmears · 10/07/2015 16:01

You'd think, wouldn't you and maybe it's just my eyes, used to the black, that mean it doesn't look right?

Say, I'm wearing a purple skirt, with a teal top, that has bits of pink and purple. Adding another colour (navy or grey) for the shoes doesn't seem to work.

I'd stick with black for that. The colours, while muted, aren't too pale so I think black would be fine. I reckon black only looks wrong if it looks way too harsh against a very soft or pale colour. Purple and teal are fine with black shoes I think

I don't own any black shoes. I have grey, tan, mushroom, navy and the ultimate neutral, leopard!

burnishedsilver · 10/07/2015 17:40

I think you're best not wearing black next to your face but on your feet its fine.

For dressy shoes try silver.

I'm a Spring and I wear black shoes. God if I always wore shoes in my colours I'd look like a clown. Grin

I'm a summer too, I didn't get rid of my black shoes though go for navy, grey, silver when buying now. But I think black shoes work still with most of the colours I wear.

Twinklestein · 10/07/2015 19:29

I don't wear black next to my face but I wear black trousers and skirts with the right colours for me on the top half, and then black shoes.

I generally wear brown shoes/boots with brown trousers, grey with grey etc...

ringingin · 10/07/2015 19:39

I'm a Spring and wear bright navy and dove grey shoes. I tried bright blue shoes recently with a dress full of my colours and didn't look like a clown...the photos are amazing!

I've stopped wearing black altogether...it was hard at first but it's allowed me to get all the other colours right too. I think more now about combinations.

midnightmoomoo · 10/07/2015 21:32

I don't have black shoes or boots! I have navy, blue, grape, lilac plus sandals and Birkenstocks which are much easier. It's a case of buying when you find the right colour.

I think if you like black shoes then wear them, but over time you might find as you buy other colours that you move away from black anyway.

DH is s summer too, he goes for Oxblood shoes when he can find them but he does have black for work too as the choice for men's formal shoes is pretty much a choice between black or brown. Casual shoes are navy desert boots.

MadisonMontgomery · 10/07/2015 22:38

Never had my colours done but dislike black. The majority of my shoes are tan.
