Itchy scalp: ok with some shampoos, anyone work out what I'm sensitive to?

My scalp can get very flakey and itchy with some shampoos. I'd like to be to know what ingredient doesn't suit me, so I can consider a wider range! Fructis 2in1 works fine, as does tresemme clarifying.
I'd quite like to use something that strips the colour less, but no idea what might be worth trying...

Try loreal intensive (now sold As a mans shampoo) it has added selenium. I have sore psoriasis on my scalp and this stops it!

My scalp used to be like this, went round and round in circles, doing no poo, no SLS, would find something that worked then something set it off again.

Eventually worked out it was dairy Hmm now voila, no itching.

Obvious things would be formaldehyde, or salicylates. Or it could be the perfume, or the colouring. Phillip Kingsley does a no scent no colour shampoo that is very gentle.

The most important part of shampooing is rinsing. If you're doing that thoroughly you can help reduce the tendency for your scalp to itch.

The Loreal intensive is wonderful stuff, I agree.

Rinsing is good but doesn't eliminate the itch if you're sensitive to something.

Thanks for the tips. My scalp is super-itchy today, and feels full of little bumps. I'm not sure how well I rinsed today so will work on that and look into the loreal intensive.
I just wish I could work out exactly what causes it :(

Im pretty sure I am allergic/sensitive to a preservative called methylisothiazolinone.

This Facebook group has lots of info on it but it's found in shampoo, hand wash, washing up liquid etc. Since I switched to Aveda shampoo (which doesn't contain it) I've not had any eczema flare ups on my body but I was still getting it in my hands. I've now switched to Simple hand soap and so far it's improved massively.

I appear to react to parabens in shampoo and soap etc. It might be worth trying something without those in?

ShimmeringCobalt · 12/07/2015 07:56

I've had this problem for years.

I've worked out, after spending a fortune on coconut oil, Apple cider vinegar, a million anti itch shampoos, Philip Kingsley, etc that the following works.

Aveda Blue Mulva shampoo!!

Also washing my scalp with an extremely powerful shower! Yes really! I don't know if it's something to do with stimulating the scalp but it's definitely makes a difference!
