Please tell me about waxing down there ....

I've decided to go for it and get waxed in my nether regions for the first time. I've made an appointment for next Thursday, but couldn't chat much about it as had my daughter with me.

So what are the different options? Do I need to prepare (apart from showering well obviously)? How long does it take to settle down afterwards? (I've got a hot date Friday and Saturday Grin )

Any other advice very welcome! Thanks.

I honestly cannot believe there are people out there who undergo "beauty" treatments they have to take painkillers for. Why don't you get your feet bound and buy a whalebone corset while you're at it?

thecatsm0ther · 11/07/2015 11:06

I wasn't asking for anyone's opinion on whether this is right or wrong Smile

You need to improve your technique. My partner is like a gorilla but it's quite possible to put a penis in your mouth without eating hair at the same time. Not so sure about balls, but you are being incredibly fussy. Unless he moults all the time.

I think you need to work on your squeamishness over normal body hair. Goodness knows how you manage oral sex if you freak out at hair- I mean there are other things as well!

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 11/07/2015 11:11

I get mine done - have to hold each leg up while she does the underneath.
I've been going to her for years and we chat while she's doing it. No embarrassment at all.
I've heard laser is painful?

You MUST check that the therapist is using 'hot wax' and not strip/warm
Wax.

Strip/warm wax will take off your skin!

Pants off is best as it's quicker (and let's face it no one wants to prolong a wax). A pre wax oil prevents the wax sticking to the skin and hot wax cools and 'shrinkwraps' the hair. You shouldn't feel tender afterwards. If you do, the best thing is Sudocream.

As a rule of thumb, I say 3 weeks from shaving and 4 weeks from waxing is a good time to get waxed. If you're not sure if the hair is the right length,DON'T trim it! It's better to be longer than too short!

As an intimate waxing specialist, I can assure you that the therapist will not be worrying about your bits and bum but probably thinking about her lunch or what she needs to get on the way home from work from Tescos!

I have a big list of FAQs and what to expects on my website if anyone wants me to PM it!

Shakey1500 · 13/07/2015 13:21

Ye Gads yes, the utter humiliation of when you've grown it (as advised) ready for waxing to be told otherwise Blush

Mine took one look of disgust and said, "Oh. Right. Well I'll have to trim some before I start"

Mortifying.

What's it like DIY? I'm a bit afraid that I'll bottle it once the strip is on??!! Will it be an A+E job? Smile Wink

really friendly

This thread has clarified for me why every year I tell myself I'm going to get a bikini wax before my holiday, and I never do. The fear Confused

Cheesymonster · 13/07/2015 17:38

Sal1977 great website, thanks. Gutted I don't live closer Grin

thecatsm0ther · 13/07/2015 18:11

Well, I had a bikini wax with a bit more taken off and have to say it really didn't hurt much, no worse than eyebrow waxing.

I've booked again for in four weeks time, might have more taken off, depends on whether the skin tag is better.

Shakey I've always avoided home waxing, because I'm scared I'll bottle it and be left with wax stuck to me for ever, because I daren't pull it off!

I see my beautician every 5 - 6 weeks for a Brazilian wax. Although it takes more time, hot wax is less painful, and honestly it doesn't really hurt. I'm generally in and out in 15 mins and that includes the slower pace for hot wax.

Gunpowder · 13/07/2015 18:46

I've tried to do my own as a money saving exercise a few times. Let's just say this is one beauty treatment it's unwise to economise on. Honestly childbirth hurt less.

Leave it to the professionals. Great website btw Sal.

SadieSue29 · 13/07/2015 20:20

I get a Hollywood every 6ish weeks and have to go against the grain and say I found the hot wax that sets much more painful, felt like I could feel every single pube being pulled out, after that experience I next went for strip wax which was much less painful.

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 13/07/2015 20:23

See, I disagree with this. When I have hot wax I break out in a horrible rash that takes about 3 weeks to go away. When I have the old fashioned yellowish (beeswax I assume) warm wax it doesn't make me bleed, provided the beautician is good at waxing, and it doesn't give me a rash. The newer greenish warm wax is a disaster though, agree with that.

thecatsm0ther · 13/07/2015 21:49

I don't know what colour the wax was, but she used strips, the wax felt quite warm, almost hot. It didn't hurt much at all though.
