How to break daily hairwash habit

For over 20 years I've washed my (fine, dullish, highlighted) bob every day because by Day 2 it's greasy and flat. The ends were getting so bad- dry and fluffy- that I had to have it cut again recently. Every hair stylist says I need to try and wash it every three days to improve quality but I seriously look dreadful. Thinking of trying to 'train' my hair whilst I'm not at work over the summer. Is it possible? I'd love it to look healthy and SHINY but it's always dull.

I sympathise completely!

I use baby shampoos every few days to avoid the silicones/help wash them out. Occasionally I avoid conditioner and on a weekend I'm a scruffy greasy haired oik

Mine gets washed twice a week now- it was every day at one point but seems to be in far better condition now. I think it took a whole to 'train' it into the new routine but I could probably get away with only once a week if I had to now.

I use Unite shampoo (and their seven second conditioner, and blow dry lotion, and styling spray, and argon oil, and straightening balm, and beach spray.....not all of them every day.....) love their products but they are only from hairdressers I think. Not particularly cheap. The shampoo is sls and paraben free and low in silicones.

Michelle Kegan recently said she uses them. Smile

My problem too. I am used to washing my hair everyday but I know I shouldn't especially during winter.

Really, it is ok to wash your hair everyday if you want to and your hair looks better for it. Or as I linked earlier that's what Philip Kingsley a trichologist believes anyway.

If you'd rather not then it is fine but it isn't damaging your hair if you are treating it carefully. And only put conditioner on the ends.

I used to have disgusting hair by day two. I've now trained my hair to go four days.
I use a sulphate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner and only use straighteners the day I wash it. I have to say having my hair long has made it much, much easier.

I tried no poo with baking soda rinses but then read that baking soda is even worse for your hair so I stopped.

If it's looking lank I give it a quick upside down blast with the hairdryer on a cool setting on day 3 and I get another day out of it. I also tie it up at night especially during summer.
