Nasolabial lines

How old were you when you noticed your first nasolabial lines? I don't mean those you only see when you're sliming... I mean the ones that look like "parenthesis" () around your mouth.
I'm 31 years old, with very little sun damage, have been using cleansers, moisturisers and sunscreen since I was 14, but this year the "parenthesis" are here to stay. I'm trying to moisturise my skin (using a combination of asian and western products), taking supplements, drinking lots of water, etc but it looks like all effort will be futile... it seems a bit too early, though; I thought these lines would normally show in ones 40s rather than early 30s?

Mine come and go. If I go more than a few days without moisturising using decent skin stuff or if my cleanser is too harsh they come. They go with lots of moisturising x

Doobigetta · 29/06/2015 22:20

I've had them since mid thirties. I think it depends on your face shape and bone structure though- I've only got these and a number 1 between my eyes. Hardly any crows feet.

Mcmcmcmc · 30/06/2015 19:19

Thanks! Has anyone managed to reduce those lines by using skincare such as retinoids and vitamin C? they are just lines, not real folds yet.

Mine appear when I've had a few drinks. I'm 41.

MamaLazarou · 01/07/2015 07:00

None yet: I'm nearly 40.

ZaZathecat · 01/07/2015 08:08

Would love to know how to get rid of these! First started to notice them around 50. Unfortunately I think it's genetic, the places where your face likes to crease, and I can't see anything short of fillers doing anything for mine (but I can't be faffed with all that and will try to grow old gracefully).

ilovetosleep · 01/07/2015 18:36

Watching with interest! Am 33 and they have just appeared for the first time as in they are always slightly visible. Them and some similar lines around my eyes :(

ReallyNotMe · 01/07/2015 19:54

I am 41 and have had these for a few years. Recently been using vitamin c and retinol but it hasn't reduced them. The best thing is not to put any foundation or powder over them as it seems to emphasise rather than disguise :(

AgathaF · 01/07/2015 21:10

Filler are the only thing that works on these lines. They shouldn't be obvious, or eradicate the lines completely, but they do make a huge difference.

ginorwine · 01/07/2015 21:36

I had v distinct ones - I've had a small amount of filler and it has made a very significant difference . Others can't tell . It's my face - just how it was before facial flaps !!

gablir77 · 02/07/2015 01:25

I think these lines show up earlier or fine and or dry skin. I am 37 and have very thick greasy skin and have no lines at all just lots of spots and bumps. I think once you have them it is hard to get rid of. Maybe microdermabration could help?

GaryBaldy · 02/07/2015 07:52

45 and don't have them yet. I'm fat and so that seems to be a good wrinkle preventer.

I've noticed similar aged slim friends have way more lines than I do.

thisfalseinsight · 04/07/2015 07:26

I have them...have been using retinoids for years (for acne) and they've not helped at all! Although who knows, perhaps without they would be worse?? Interesting to see people speaking about their lines coming and going as mine seem permanently etched in!

Mcmcmcmc · 06/07/2015 00:19

I asked my mum when she first got her smile lines, and she said at 48... Hmm
My guess is that she mean the nose-to-mouth folds not lines... cause I have the lines (even when I'm not smiling) and I'm 31!

Looks like fillers on the cheeks is the way to go... I am pretty good with my skincare, but I guess the problem is more about loss of volume on the cheeks (my weight tends to vary a lot, from 51 to 55 kg, not much but it does show on my face) and loss of skin elasticity (which I don't think skincare can really address).

In the meantime I will continue using the vitamin C serum I started using a few weeks ago, plus lots of oils, moisturisers, Asian masks and essences and will go back on retin-A as soon as the summer is over... Grin

Waitrose Baby Butter. Morning and night. Its got my neck back to its pre middle age state too (it was seriously 'going' , looked all crepey, shudder).

AgathaF · 06/07/2015 19:31

Is that the baby bottom butter from Waitrose Sazzle?

Mcmcmcmc · 07/07/2015 19:09

That's wonderful, Sazzle! I have shea butter at home, it is a similar texture to the Waitrose product so I will give it another go... Perhaps if I use it consistently it may help a bit.
