Where do you buy your clothes?

I always feel like I don't really know where to buy clothes for my age (early 30s). I went shopping last week and got some nice stuff in Next, Oasis and New Look but I felt at a bit of a loss for where else to go. I like Fat Face but it's a bit pricey but sometimes I feel like I'm not the right age for some shops. I haven't set foot in Topshop or River Island for years. I always think of Dorothy Perking as an older persons shop (although no idea if that's true).

Sometimes I walk past or into a shop and see the really young staff and think they must wonder why I am in there.

I'm mid thirties and shop almost exclusively in Oasis. Topshop for basics like vests. Warehouse has some nice atuff at the moment but can be a bit beige.

Nevergoingtolearn · 22/06/2015 13:24

I'm 33, I struggle to find one shop that I really like, often find new look is too young and then places like M&S more old, I buy bits from,

TK Max
H&M
Animal
Superdry
Joules
Seasalt
Saltrock
Primark ( for basics )
Next ( jeans and shorts )
Fatface

I'm don't really dress in pretty things unless I'm going somewhere special, I hate places like River Island, Oasis and Monsoon Grin.

spiderlight · 22/06/2015 14:23

Fat Face, Gap, occasionally Next (for jeans), Uniqlo for basic t-shirts.

TriJo · 22/06/2015 14:29

31, 5'5", size 10, hourglass/athletic - Gap, Next, Fat Face, Primark (you can take the girl out of Ireland, but you can't keep an Irish girl out of Penneys!), M&S, Pepperberry... I'm also a huge fan of vintage styles so a big fan of Lindy Bop and Vivien of Holloway for dressier items.

CrapBag · 22/06/2015 22:42

Wow thanks. Loads of great suggestions.

Problem is where I live is crap for shopping. I used to like Zara but then ours shut down. I did shop in H and M but I found the hems always came down on tops, was ok for basics though. Maybe I need to take another look. I did find New Look a bit young in places or a bit trendy but they do nice summery dresses that I love, they also have some nice maxi dresses.

I found Next good for basics as long as it's not the 2/3 tops for X price as I bought some last year and they are really really see through!

I prefer hennes for some stuff olus the odd eBay thing chucked in. I now use pinterest for ideas and have settled into a few coloues,/outfits for work (I get compliments now!) and plan to do the same for casual wear.

Glittergirl123 · 22/06/2015 22:47

I'm 23 and I mostly shop in new look, lipsy, river island and Ted baker .

Twinklestar2 · 22/06/2015 23:35

I love Dorothy Perkins for their Eden jeggings and also their fit and flare dresses which I wear with a jacket and shoe boots.

Tops and basics I get from Primark.

Shoes I never can buy cheap as they hurt my feet so its always ALDO or Dune.

Also buy the odd thing on eBay but always buy new.

Twinklestar2 · 22/06/2015 23:38

I'm 36 btw

leccybill · 22/06/2015 23:44

I'm 35 and I'd be lost without Oasis and Dorothy Perkins.

mysteryfairy · 23/06/2015 07:43

I'm in my 40s and do virtually all of my shopping online. I think the huge amount of choice you have online means bricks and mortar shops always disappoint.

I love sales. I use Selfridges and Harvey Nichols to get things I have been weighing up all season at fab reductions. They don't like their stock to hang around once it's past season so really mark it down to sell. Donna Ida is also good for picking up premium denim. I used to love My Wardrobe and also buy from net a porter and the outnet - my theory being I'd rather have one reduced good quality thing than 2/3 poor quality high street items.

I get some basics from Hush and Me and Em - for stuff I'm not totally in love with I wait for round two of their sales reductions.

In the past I've worn stuff from Baukjen but not so much of late. I also like whistles but watch the fabrics and wash instructions.

I think of the big high street stores top shop is definitely my favourite. Their jeans are brilliant and in an excellent range of sizes. They are great for shoes. I also like All Saints and get odd thing in urban outfitters.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 23/06/2015 08:26

I'm a bit 10 years older than you. I hate polyester which seems to make it much harder at the moment, it's creeping in everywhere Hmm My wardrobe is a real mix. Gap, Next, M&S, Oasis, Warehouse, John Lewis, Zara, H&M. Odd treat from Mint Velvet.

Have found a few gems in M&S recently, to my surprise. You do need to search through though. I do a lot of online browsing before I hit the shops these days and make a bit of a shopping list on pinterest.

SpecificOcean · 23/06/2015 09:20

New Look for jeans - I can always go in and find a pair that fit me perfectly. I also get pj's, t-shirts, leggings and a few other bits from there.

H and M - Jackets, vest tops, long sleeve tops, jumpers, cardies and other bits. I have stuck to these 2 shops for years for the main basics.

Then I get a few things from Topshop, Joules, Superdry, Warehouse, Next, Kookai, Hobbs, Bershka, Fatface etc

Boots and shoes- mainly Sole trader, Schuh and Deichman.

rollonthesummer · 23/06/2015 09:30

H+M, Fat Face, Oasis, Warehouse, Tesco, Tu, Primark for tops.
White Stuff, Joe Browns, Fat Face for skirts
Boden, White Stuff, Joules for dresses
Super dry for jeans
Wallis for leggings
Fat face for hoodies

squizita · 23/06/2015 09:41

Everywhere! Grin
Debenhams is good as every brand is under one roof.
Apricot, New Look, H&M, River Island, Forever 21, Next, Primark.
Charity shops and vintage sellers.
Alternative shops online like Little Bootique and blue banana.
Vintage repro like collectif and heyday.
Whispers everything five pounds.

I also invest in a few new designer bits each year from the outlets in Bicester Village or Selfridges sale.

Oh and TK MAXX!!!!

I'm mid 30s.
Only on MN do we 30 somethings wear Boden, Cos and nowt else. Wink I would look very old dressed like that round my way.

Picachew · 23/06/2015 09:48

I'm 51, size 10/12. I lbuy things from White Stuff, John Lewis capsule collection, M and S for jeggings and undies. Bravissimo for bras. That covers most of my wardrobe. I buy from JL wherever possible as I love the returns factor and their click and collect next day facility.

Flingingmelon · 23/06/2015 10:00

I'm also stuck out in the countryside and I've found that if I'm patient I actually have much better choice now. I'm almost entirely online rather than using stores and so I get the whole range.

I'm 35 and size 12 pear.

Warehouse looks really great at the moment, Zara is pretty reliable. Other Stories (h&m's older, classier brand) is great, Anthropologie is ace of I've got any money, Top Shop still great for basics. Mango sometimes has good stuff. Asos can be good although their sizing is mean. DP is fantastic for shoes.
Other than that I use Chinese fashion sites, they sell all sorts but often UK retailer stuff that never quite managed to get on the boat Smile the prices are great if you can wait for a ten day delivery. Try Romwe.com, it covers a big age range so you'd have to trawl through.

Finally I get basics from Gap. They send me discount emails almost daily so I never pay full price.

Stevie77 · 23/06/2015 10:01

I'm late 30s and shop everywhere. Gap for jeans, I like Banana Republic for work stuff but lately I've not seen anything I like. I've rediscovered Oasis and Warehouse and I quite like some of their stuff and their outfit ideas (great as I'm useless at putting things together). I usually avoid H&M but last week found a great pair of cropped trousers in there which were just what I've been looking for, often it's very hit and miss there.

Ananke99 · 23/06/2015 10:14

I'm 30, size 10 and most of my current wardrobe is from

H&M - basic leggings/vest tops/cardigans. The odd dress or top, quality is a bit hit & miss.
New Look - dresses/t-shirts/shoes/accessories.
Oasis - dressier/going out stuff.
Dorothy Perkins - jeans/jeggings.

I also get the odd thing from Primark, TK Maxx, River Island.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 23/06/2015 10:15

I am 36.

The bulk of my clothes comes from La Redoute and H&M, with the odd bits from Boden, Joules, Primark.

I get lots online, try on at home with my existing stuff and send back what I don't want.

Eversobusyeveryday · 23/06/2015 13:01

41 and almost entirely New Look, H&M and Zara. I'm a particularly big fan of new look shoes.

Loafline · 23/06/2015 14:14

43 - uniqlo, gap, jigsaw, whistles, zara, hobbs, french connection, H&M, toast.
