Gross alert- great tip for spots with no head

Hi all

This is pretty gross but I've just discovered it and it seems too good a tip not to pass on.

Since having DC my skin has gone to shit- specifically with very large cyst like spots that have no head so can't be squeezed but that stick around for weeks at a time and are huge and painful.

In a moment of pure desperation the other night, before bed I covered a couple of this little bastards with a savlon Hydrocolloid plaster (like these, see picture). I don't know what made me do it.

However, when I woke and removed the plasters the spots had not only deflated and were no longer painful, but the plaster had drawn out all the pus! There was even a lovely lump of yellow pus on the dressing to prove it!! I then dabbed a bit of tea tree oil on and the spots were cover up with concealerable within hours.

Have since done it twice more with new spots and it's worked perfectly each time. It's made the turnaround from spawn to being able to conceal these spots 1-2 days as apposed to 1-2 weeks.

I hope this helps someone else.

OP thanks so much for this. I got some and overnight it's dealt with a huge eruption that I've been squeezing and picking (I know, I know) for a week.

The goo on the plaster is most satisfying that I almost want to post a photo klaxon thread for the sporners.

This has just come up on my FB feed as part of the mumsnet Facebook page. Feeling famous!

This is amazing, almost can't wait for the next time one of these pops up on my chin!

honeyharris · 12/06/2015 09:25

You wouldn't believe how excited I am about this thread! Still suffer from nasty cystic hormonal spots even though I have just turned 39, and my skin was horrendous with them when I was pregnant and just after I had my son last year. Will be buying some on my way home from work to keep in stock for my next one!

loveulotslikejellytots · 12/06/2015 09:36

I get these type of things all along my jaw line. Bloody painful and nothing ever comes out of them. Most of them never come to a head even. I've bought 3 sheets! I'll have a little pimple party next week! Do you need to cover those dots with anything? Or just stick them on your face?

CallieG · 12/06/2015 14:55

I'm an Aussie and the toothpaste thing does work, gel is better but make sure it is one with Baking soda and peroxide in it. I had cystic acne as a teen along my jawline, my back and on the sides of my boobs ???? If the blind cyst is in a spot with thin skin over bone ( forehead, jaw line, cheek bone) Use a cotton ball with Methylated spirits on it , apply some pressure and massage the spot in circles for a few minutes then dabbing with the Metho, do this for a few hours if needed, the blood flow you create with the massage will carry away the building infection, it should disappear overnight. I had one on my chin once, it was bloody massive, I could see it if I looked down, I spent half the night alternating massage and dabbing with the metho, I went to sleep for a couple of hours and it was gone by morning, I had a small wrinkly sac of deflated skin on my chin but the fester was gone. I Always squeezed pussy pimples, I could not leave the house with any on my face! I have ONE scar and it is from a pimple I didn't pop, I always used methylated spirits to dry them out and disinfect them & I didn't pic at them all the time, pop it, dab it, leave it alone.Blush

I've just bought some Blister plasters from Morrisons, £1.00 for five. They have 'Advanced healing@ on the front and it says in miniscule writing on the back they are hydrocolloid.

Gingefringe · 13/06/2015 20:46

CallieG what is a "pussy pimple"? I'm intrigued is it on your fanny?

MissCalamity · 13/06/2015 21:02

This also came up on my FB Feed. Next time I'm at the shops I'm definitely buying some, I've become really down about the amount of spots I'm getting (all T zone) they just seem to be constant, one goes two more appear Sad
I'm 35 FGS I shouldn't be getting more spots than a teenager.

Behooven · 13/06/2015 21:41

So blister plasters like compeed would do the same thing?

Oldraver · 13/06/2015 22:28

Yep Compeed are hydrocolloid just very much more expensive. They were next to the £1 Morrisons ones and were £3.99

Behooven · 14/06/2015 00:22

Thanks oldraver, I just happen to have a pack of compeed but I'll get the own brand next time

Felyne · 14/06/2015 07:16

Gingefringe I think CallieG means ones that have pus in them

TheLastDoll · 15/06/2015 07:49

I can't even describe how excited I am over this.

Would they work on blood blisters as well? The big black ones? I get them on my inner thighs all the time

rhianfitz · 17/06/2015 20:23

as an aside the Lisa Eldridge makeup video for bad skin is AMAZING!

MrsMarigold · 17/06/2015 20:43

I found the compeed coldsore penso patches good too.

Gcalgske · 17/06/2015 21:16

I have a few cystic ones I tried this last night but didn't really do anything. I'll try again tonight.

Iwonderif · 17/06/2015 21:28

Off to boots/morrisons tmrw to buy some. I have 3 bike cystic ones at the moment. I'm 36. Started 5 years ago when PG with youngest. Always on my chin and between my eyebrows! I'm never zit free at all. Does SFA for my self confidence. Thanks for posting this Claire. Will report back at the weekend.

Strawforest · 17/06/2015 22:24

Thanks for all the info. The toothpaste trick has worked on my face for years but I have a stubborn cyst on my shoulder and will certainly try the plasters as soon as I've bought them tomorrow.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 18/06/2015 08:30

Hopefully this will work for poor ds's skin inherited from me Blush

LapsedTwentysomething · 18/06/2015 21:14

I bought Boots own brand today, as I think MNers have cleaned out Sainsbos' 2 for £5 offer. Untypically I have no blinders at the moment but usually get them behind and below my ears. Will report back.

snowaccidentprone · 18/06/2015 21:29

Boots do a small box for cold sores which contain small dots of hydrocoloid (sp?) plasters. I used 2 last week and within 4 days my cold sores had gone.

LittleMissMac · 19/06/2015 18:30

Is it wrong that I'm now actively willing the next throbbing lump to appear on my forehead/chin so I can test this out? Only a matter of days before the hormones do their evil work... Then HAH! Have THAT, damn spot!!

honeyharris · 29/06/2015 10:15

Hydrocolloid disaster here - I slapped a Tesco hydrocolloid plaster onto a spot which was coming up on my cheek last night before bed,(had a few wines and thought it would be good idea, plus funny if my husband saw it so I could tell him I was trying to look like Usher) and took it off this morning. I now have a massive oval mark where the plaster was and the spot is still there - think it may even be an insect bite and not a spot as I usually get the cystic ones on my chin. Have tried to cover up the mark with concealer without much success. Today I have buggy fit where I will sweat my make up off and then teaching pole fit. Tomorrow I go to my 'proper' job where there are po faced adults other professionals. How will I explain this?

KatoPotato · 29/06/2015 10:23

I don't think the 'lump' on the dressing is pus actually. It's the active ingredient in the dressing reacting to the moisture.
