Panic, Patch of skin on chin peeled off after using Clearasil Wipes and 5% Glycolic Acid

Can anyone help. I'm very panicked. I used Clearasil Wipes on quite a big spot and then without thinking used my Glycolic Acid cream and then today used my hot cloth cleanser which took a thin layer of skin off over the spot. When I look in the mirror I can see a patch of skin with a layer gone. Will this recover with time?

Yes of course it will. Might scab first though.

Take it easy with all the acid peels and wipe stuff. It's all the rage at the moment but you can do damage if you are too enthusiastic. Skin really doesn't need lots of acid-y things applied to it

Oh thanks, too panicked to sleep. I'm worried my 40 year old skin will never recover. Yes, I don't usually put the two together. I think you're right, I'm definitely going easy on acid products in the future. I was shocked how easily the skin peeled from over the spot which is now very red and feeling quite sore.

Actually, I can see an area with a layer of skin less. I hope it does recover. This is what must happen when you have a high % skin peel?

It'll be exactly the same process of healing as if you fell over and skinned your chin. Just prepare for an attractive scab!

I use Alpha H twice a week and an enzyme mask once of the week. It's absolutely enough and I read with horror some of the threads in here with folk putting unknown stuff on their faces. Eve lom and Algenist cleansers for me, followed by Clarins santal oil or Sunday Riley floral oil and then one of a multitude of moisturisers! I'm 43 and have decent skin.

Thanks. I'm hoping the skin will even out and the spot will heal over. It's looking very angry now!

Me too, just reading some of them makes my face itch. Op, I'm sure your skin will heal but don't end up like me. I tried dabbling with different products several years ago, ignored all the warning signs and have had really sensitive skin ever since.

FannyFernackapan · 02/06/2015 11:18

Sounds like you've burnt it but fret not, you'll be fine!

The threads on here run to hundreds and hundreds of posts with people buying industrial strength Korean products. It's just not needed, it really isn't

In fact, I'm off to crack open the Lush Ultrabland : )

DrankSangriaInThePark · 02/06/2015 13:22

Alpha H is very strongHmm

AmazingDisgrace · 02/06/2015 13:29

PMSL @ "industrial strength" you do realise that the Korean products are far gentler than your industrial strength Alpha H? You're starting to sound a bit bonkers Fanny and obsessing over products you know nothing aboutHmm

iwantgin · 02/06/2015 14:20

Ouch. It will heal ,but yes, you may have a nice scab for a few days.

When I used to use Differin nightly it made my skin very delicate. One night I caught my chin with my nail and took a huge chunk out. Looked lovely for a couple of weeks that one!

No picking now! ;)

Dolphin8 · 02/06/2015 15:39

Thanks for the advice. It's very dry now , it will be interesting to see if a scab forms. Will definitely leave it now! It really took a layer off a large area!

Ouch. Put some Sudocrem on it.

Holdonforonemoreday · 02/06/2015 17:13

Let air get to it so it heals faster.

I very been using loads of new stuff too and today I just rinsed my face under the shower with a muslin cloth and it was squeaky clean, followed by my lrp toner with a tiny bit of salycic acid and Bb cream. Keeping it simple for now. My skin is looking much better for it.

Kundry · 02/06/2015 17:19

It prob won't scab, just leave it alone to do it's thing. Hopefully it will also make your spot go quicker Smile Spots often get dry and flaky as they shrink down.

Of course it will heal - your skin entirely replaces itself every 6-8 weeks.

Also, arf at the shock about people putting acid on their faces from an Alpha H and enzyme mask user Hmm

lisaloulou84 · 02/06/2015 17:22

Leave it alone. Keep it clean with a mild cream face wash. If it gets tight get one of those green tea and aloe cloth face masks from Superdrug. 89p and fix everything.

Dolphin8 · 02/06/2015 19:19

I've heard Sudocrem is good. Looks better this evening and think the layer of skin will reform but it really did take a few layers of skin off the spot so it looks more red and raw than it probably would have done if I hadn't used the clearasil / glycolic acid combination (no idea why I didn't think about it). I'll give it some air for now.

Maybe put a bit of Vaseline on to protect it when you're washing your face etc.
