The high SPF facial sunscreen thread...

Thought it might be an idea to share experiences of different facial sunscreens, as I have vowed to wear SPF 50 or higher every day. Been doing a bit of experimenting, anyway, and thought I would share Grin

I'd been wearing Clinique SPF 30 (one in the small yellow tube) for years. Its OK - the usual thick, white, slightly chalky sunscreen texture, but not too sticky once its been on for a few minutes. Make-up goes on Ok-ish afterwards. Stings if it gets near your eyes, though.

Last few months have been using La Roche Posay Antihelios Ultra Light Fluid SPF50 (I think thats the name, sorry!).This is pretty good stuff. Very light and not at all sticky. Eyes don't sting. Make up goes on OK. It gives me a slight sheen, though, that I don't entirely love. There is a tinted version that is a bit orangey on my pale skin, but with a fake tan on the other eek, it was nice, gave me a healthy glow.

This week have tried Neutorogena Dry Touch SPF 100. Hated it when it went on. It was really shiny and sticky and smelled horrible. Had to leave it about 15 mins before I could apply make-up. However, make-up went on OK and the shiny/sticky feel and look disappeared after half an hour or so. Quite impressed for such high SPF. I'd deffo take this on holiday somewhere hot.

And finally...this one is my absolute FAVE. Its so bloody good I am wondering whether it can possibly actually be as high protection as it claims? Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50. Its SO light, smells nice, absorbs quickly, make-up goes on beautifully, not even a tad sticky or chalky. Its amazing stuff.

Please safe any good sunscreen finds you have had, too. Also be interested in body sunscreens (SPF 50 pls). I use the Nivea clear spray, which avoids the sticky/white/chalky look but smells like a chemical plant.

I've used Sunsense Daily Face, Nivea, Heliocare gel and Avon Anew Clinical e-Defence, all SPF 50 (another Retin A user Smile)

I liked Sunsense and think it would be great for people with acne due to being not just oil-free but also having niacinamide. The tint was fine for a v pale person and it was rich enough I didn't need a moisturiser. It did have a slight tendency to roll around the edges of my face though.

Nivea was awful as massive amounts of balling and rolling.

Heliocare has prob been my favourite, the consistency was good and never any problems with rolling.Again no need for moisturiser - I have combination skin.

Finally the Avon - I really really like this - it has a thicker consistency, feels v moisturising but isn't heavy once on. And the price is way better than the Heliocare. But the bottle it comes in is really crap - maybe I just got a bad batch?

IfYoureHappy - there is a new 2015 version that has a slightly better sun rating (PA++++) than the previous version. I don't think there is an issue with fakes, I've certainly been very happy with all my Japanese/Korean purchases.

I use Clinique Dark Spot Defense (SPF 45) and it is really lovely. No stickiness, chalkiness etc. I have rosacea (which I think I might have mentioned a gazillion times now) and I think dark spot Defense actually tones down the redness in my face too. Love it!

This year I'll be using P20 sunscreen and bobbi brown serum foundation SPF 40 and hoping my hyper pigmentation stays in check.

I have brush in block for top ups and surprise sunshine. It's good, if a little orange on v v pale people like me. Haven't tried to take it apart though.

Another plus is DC love the brush and lack of stickiness too.

Another vote for Biore here - been using it for 3 years (used to live in Tropics).

Kids like it too - not sticky, doesn't leave residue

Holdonforonemoreday · 31/05/2015 08:32

Actually maybe I'll be using Clinique dark spot defense now thanks to labette recommendation.

Thanks for the Biore info. I'm currently using Clinique. It's ok. Better than the LRP which was too whitening. But I'm hoping that the Biore is the best.

It's getting the make up on top that I find challenging...

I like the neutrogena dry touch one. It goes up to 100 as mentioned upthread. I've just bought this coppertone spf 50 milk that is amazing though. Even better it's a total bargain at 3 for 99p in the 99p shop Grin
