Straight teeth- always so pricey?

I have wonky teeth, not too bad, top right hand side has one tooth set back from others, and bottom row is pretty compacted/ graveyard like!

I've just left work to look after my baby boy, so cash is tight, otherwise I'd look at investing in braces. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get them cheaper than the £2000-£4000 you regularly hear about?

My braces were 2k, but paid over 18 months. Not a 'payment plan' type thing, they just allowed me to pay in installments every 4-8 weeks.

Have you asked at your dentist? Mine do a scheme for £1500, which is what I have to pay for my son - he isn't allowed them on the NHS as his crooked teeth don't affect his bite. If your teeth affect your bite (I actually have no idea what this means) then you will able to get them straightened on the NHS at any age I think.

I've just checked and it actually £2500, so I was out by a grand.
