Help - can you recommend skincare for teen dd?

Dd (15) is v self-conscious about her skin. She doesn't have acne but is v prone to spots around the middle of her face.

She used to use the Clinique anti-blemish range but we felt it was too harsh on her skin.

Now she's trying a micellar water am/pm with a v light moisturiser but still doesn't seem to be improving.

She was in tears this morning, can anyone suggest something else we could try or that's worked for their dd?

DD is using the Amie skincare range and has had good results with this. She also loves the Body Shop blue corn mask - it has made a massive difference to the spots her had on her forehead and chin.

I started using boots tea tree and witch hazel stuff when I was 21for the same reason. I'm now 34 and live in dread of them discontinuing it.

They do cleanser and toner, face wash, face scrub etc, usually about £3 each, but frequently on offer.

HoolaWoman · 23/05/2015 10:56

Clinique products are very harsh in my opinion.

DD (13) uses the Ren Rose Centifolia (sp?) cleansing water and then removes it using a soft flannel wrung out in warm water. Follows with a Ren Moisturiser (can't remember which one?).

She never uses an exfoliants, or scrubs or toner. They're all far too harsh for delicate teenage skin.

Touch wood, so far her skin is still lovely and clear.

The best thing my dd ever did for her skin was the la roche possay range. the effeclar stuff in that brand works best for her. she uses a cleanser then the effeclar toner and then moisturiser. I got her the blemish treatment as well.

the other thing I would recommend if your dd is using make up is to double cleanse. use the micellar water to remove make uo and then use the effeclar cleanser to actually clean her skin without the make up on it.

My dd uses urban decay make up and it seems to not aggrevate her skin that way some of the more budget brands did so checking her make up out might be helpful.

Ink agree about cheaper make up brands causing irritation. DD wears very little make up still, just a dab of BB cream, mascara and a tinted lip balm.

But she definitely reacts to cheap brands. Have thrown away loads of different ones.

Can also recommend La Roche Posay, my 14 year old uses it. She's also used Clearasil pads (containing salycilic acid) on her spotty/blackhead back and it's a revelation. She's used it 4-5 times and it's almost cleared everything up!

Cetaphil range is great and cheap as chips

GobblersKnob · 23/05/2015 12:20

Green people Oy young range is amazing, cannot recommend it enough, natural, gentle, mostly organic, it cleared up my terrible hormonal acne and has done the same for several others I have recommended it too.

It is cheaper from Amazon, but on their own website they do lots of sample sizes so you can try without committing to full size products, postage is free too.

Cetaphil is so drying. If she already has dry skin, I wouldn't recommend that.

I had a similar type skin at her age. Third La Roche Possay and REN. Not hugely expensive. I would recommend a toner which can help with the spots, something mildly exfoliating with salycic acid. Think Korres do quite a nice one.

Does she wear makeup? If so, she needs to use another cleanser after removing her makeup with micellar water. She needs something to really cleanse her face.

I'd look at a REN cleanser (nothing foaming) using a flannel (change it every day) with a hydrating toner and light moisturiser. Effaclar is good for targeting spots.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 23/05/2015 13:10

Fourth Effaclar duo as a treatment. Has transformed dd's forehead.
She is now washing with LRP Physiological. Boring as hell, but gentle.

Maladicta · 23/05/2015 15:45

Thanks for all your suggestions, we're going to try the Effaclar and some better make-up.
She's been using tons of concealer and I can't help thinking it hasn't helped.
A good light moisturiser?

Does she actually was her face just using a warm wrung out flannel? Sounds obvious but has made a noticeable difference to ds's skin, he actually changes colour afterwardsGrin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 23/05/2015 16:42

Mineral concealer might be better?

5446 · 23/05/2015 17:26

I use a Nivea light daily moisturiser for the day and a more nourishing one at night.

If you have a look on Boots, they are doing 3 for 2 on skincare at the moment. Should be able to stock up on skincare.

Re concealer, Lancome and MAC both do excellent ones. Sounds stupid, but make sure she isn't applying the concealer directly from the wand. Easiest way to transfer bacteria etc. If she needs a more heavy duty one, try Estee Lauder double wear concealer or Dermablend.

My niece had terrible spots which have completely cleared with Murad face wash and La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo
