Sorry, but can we talk about old corns?

Any ideas on how to get rid? They are no longer painful. Is it just a case of filing away at them? My podiatrist ignores them when I go in for an annual overhaul. Are they removable if I book in for something specific? Was thinking about corn plasters but have scared myself looking at old threads discussing ulcers.

I sometimes use that verruca dissolving stuff on mine - I have one that grows on the ball of my foot under my little toe. It's like walking on glass. I've sometimes hacked at it with nail clippers in desperation.

I probably shouldn't admit to this, but I got rid of mine with one of those scalpels with a partly shielded blade and then finished them off with a Footner treatment. For the first time in my adult life, I have no corns or hard skin on my feet. It's very satisfying!

Oh and I forgot to mention that I have a Diamencel no11 foot file which helps keep them corn free. Can you tell I'm obsessed?

queenbrunhilda · 21/05/2015 00:20

Fozzley - did you do them in one go or over time with the scalpel? How did you know when to stop to avoid injury!? (And did it hurt?).

Queen - If you're going to try this (and podiatrists will be screaming at me now that it's really irresponsible), you have to go very carefully. I use one of these www.landyschemist.com/ever-ready-corn-knife?gclid=Cj0KEQjwhPaqBRDG2uiHzpKLi6ABEiQAk_XXiRQrLuSnGiEf7lBH2Um6zzIBYmh8s4uNuxXTTjBLw0MaApRf8P8HAQ

I use this only on the really thick hard skin on my sole and I don't take it all off with this as you risk cutting yourself. You also need to make sure you have a sharp blade (you can buy replacements). It just means that that Footner treatment can then get to the remainder of the hard skin. The first time I tried Footner, I found that it removed more or less the same thickness of skin all over the area I treated, which didn't really sort out the worst callouses.

If you have only corns on the top of your feet so that they are more accessible, I wouldn't bother with the knife - I'd just get a Diamancel as they are incredibly effective, last for ever and you don't need a steady hand!

Thanks Fozzley - where did you get your Diamencel file from? Their trade site also has an awesome 'foot rasp' which looks the business but I need a retail outlet.

I have just removed mine with bazuka extra strong which I have been using on The DS's verrucas ( fun evening activity for me!).

Coyoacan · 21/05/2015 19:40

If I remember rightly I got rid of mine with vinegar. Apply to piece of cloth and tape over them for a couple of hours it totally softens up the skin. I think two or three applications were enough and then make sure you have shoes that fit

SadLesley · 21/05/2015 19:47

Coyocan - what kind of vinegar? Just bog standard?

Fozzleyplum · 21/05/2015 19:58

I've had my foot file for years and I think I got it from the Bliss website. There appear to be online outlets selling them at a discount if you Google them.

SelfLoathing · 21/05/2015 21:36

+1 for the Diamancel #11. It is a work of genius. Ultra exfoliation.

Coyoacan · 21/05/2015 21:38

Completely bog standard vinegar.
