New skincare regime not going well -give up or persevere?

Inspired by the CH threads in here I changed my skincare regime a week ago. I am 37 with combination skin with tendency to spots. I have a couple of pigmentation marks which I am trying to get rid of and starting to see fine lines. Since starting my new regime I have been getting big lumpy spots on my chin and also on my neck that are really sore.

I do:

AM: effaclar foaming cleanser (I know this isn't advised but I've been using it for over a year with no problems)' then nip+fab dragons blood cleansing pad, effaclar duo, ultrasun50 anti pigmentation (have used this for a while too so don't think that's the problem and don't use it on my neck anyway)

PM: same as above but start with micellar water to take off makeup and end with no7 protect and perfect instead of the ultrasun.

I also use a Nivea Q10 eye cream that I've been using for ages.

So the only real new products are the nip+fab pads and the effaclar duo. Or am I combining things wrong?

Should I persevere and hope my skin is just adjusting or stop with the new products?

Hi Totem not by any means an expert, sure one will be along, I started new regime nearly three weeks ago, double cleansing/toner etc, started using the nip n fab pads first week or so of using them , skin was a bit tingly & flaky, also developed a couple of spots, but the week or so, hsve started to see a real difference.
No flaking, skin looks so much cleaner & one age spot vanished, others really fading, so maybe perservere a bit longerSmile

Sorry typos "this week" & have.

It could be the E duo.

I looked at loads of reviews and break outs were a very common complaint.

I would also ditch the foaming cleanser. It may have worked well for you but you will probably notice a bigger difference if you stop using it.

Were the breakouts on duo temporary? I'm just wondering whether it is all kind of flushing out the spots at first, like a facial does, and then it will calm down. But in the meantime I have 4 minor volcanoes on my neck and chin Hmm

I would stop. The spots are likely to be caused by a reaction to one or more ingredients.

Years ago, I was told it is normal with a purging period when starting new products, but I have heard from several experts that that is a myth and the purging (more spots) is likely to be caused by a sensitivity or reaction to ingredients. Yes, maybe you can get used to the ingredients and the spots will go away, but it may just as well get worse.

I have been using gut nip and fab pads and have also been getting big neck spots. I think I'm going to stop using them and see whether the spots clear up.

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 21/05/2015 04:21

I started using FAB facial radiance pads and Dr Dennis Gross skincare and my skin rebelled really really badly. I persevered but was sick of having really bad skin for 3 weeks so switched back to my regular products and my skin cleared up in less than 3 days. Clearly I am sensitive to something in these stronger products. Sad that they didn't work (and they cost quite a bit) but no point in continuing to use stuff that is obviously causing such a reaction.

Thanks all, I have decided to stop both the nip and fab and the effaclar and just go back to what I was using before. When I've finished the foaming face wash I might get a hot cloth cleanser instead but now I am scared of trying anything new! Also a bit pissed off I bought these expensive products to get better skin and now my skin is terrible and I'm out of pocket too! V annoying.

Effaclar gave me terrible spots. My sister spotted it lying unused in my loo and claimed it. A month on she has the most beautiful skin and has had her first break out free period. She's barely out her teens too while I have wrinkles and spot breakouts!

I have used the cain and austin skin pads before and they were really great and didn't bring me out in neck spots. They cost a lot more than the nip and fab pads though. IMO the nip and fab pads are probably a false economy.

You've no hydration/nourishing steps at all, they're all attack steps. Your skin is probably reacting because it's dehydrated and wanting moisture
Possibly stop with what you think is causing the problem but I would add in some form of hydrating toner/spray and a serum
The cleanser, pads, duo - they're all attack/strip/quite harsh steps so your skin is probably reacting by churning out oil
