Does anyone have this parka?

This one from Mango

Is it nice? Does it come large or small?

Or any other suggestions of a nice parka for an English spring? We're going to Cornwall next week and the forecast is 13C....

Before you nice ladies come back with suggestions, I've looked in: Zara, fatface, white stuff, joules, seasalt, gap, oasis, boden, atterley road, topshop (and probably some more) and can't find anything I like...

It's stylish but it's cotton. If it rains or drizzles you will be freezing. I speak as someone who found herself in an outdoors shop in Truro buying a fleece in desperation (which I then didn't take off for the next week) and eying the Gore-Tex jackets.

LaCerbiatta · 19/05/2015 17:43

Hmmmm food for thought..... Don't feel ready for an unstylish gore tex! :)
Any stylish suggestions?

My suggestion is to search online for a North Face shell on sale/ discount. Frequently Yoox has them. IMO there's not much middle ground between fashion and function, and being stylish is really a matter of being appropriate for the given situation. A Gore-Tex parka is passable if you buy black, and they never change so you will have it to rely on for decades... who knows, you may take up fell-running or move to Seattle. Enjoy the (see left) and don't forget insect repellant on legs (beware of ticks!)

I need a summer waterproof, not for a holiday just for walking to and from work. WHat about this from Boden? Not sure how warm it'll be but I've got the winter version and they are waterproof.

mirpuppet · 19/05/2015 19:08

BillyBigChin that link takes me to Sky?

Pantsalive · 19/05/2015 19:11

Not helping but that's not a Cornish scone something. Needs to have the jam on first. That's a scone from Devon or some other ignorant place

somethingmorepositive · 19/05/2015 19:40

Ah, I knew I was going to stroll straight into that controversy. Grin

LaCerbiatta · 19/05/2015 21:57

Oh dear I hate being cold and wet... maybe a gore-tex is the way forward.

Boden's spring parka or rainyday mac would be perfect.... IF IT WASN'T FOR THE FECKING PRINTS!!!

Yes clotted cream aplenty to keep the cold away, but surely underneath the jam! ;)

I've got this from Next www.next.co.uk/x5d148s2#693598x55
It's fleece lined with a massive hood. Kept me nice and dry this morning on way to work.

Batmam · 19/05/2015 23:46

I've just bought this on sale: m.howies.co.uk/kittyhawk-ventile-jacket-royal-blue.html
and LOVE it. Had to size down though

DarylDixonsDarlin · 20/05/2015 10:15

Buy a jacket from seasalt when you're down here? Waterproof, windproof, and yes its friggin freezin down ere at the mo! Sad well today's not bad actually but the evenings and mornings are still very cold, and I'm feeling the wind!

DarylDixonsDarlin · 20/05/2015 10:20

Oh I've just re read your OP and seen you aren't keen on any seasalt ones Confused sorry. The only parka I have is a white stuff one, which you don't like either, so my post is probably the least helpful! Grin We have a few outdoor shops down here but their range is probably no different to where you live locally.

Layers is probably what you're after, so a thinner waterproof outer layer, plus a jumper you can remove when the sun comes out?

BumbleNova · 20/05/2015 11:04

OP I am having the EXACT same problem. off to cornwall this weekend and I have no idea what to pack. I think the Boden ones are the best of a bad bunch. I have resigned myself to layers. I have lots of long sleeved tshirts, jumpers, a gilet and I was going to get a cheap pack-a-mac to shove over the top if the weather turns that I put in a handbag. Blacks have got a good selection of Peter Storm ones for £25 that are not too hideous.

LaCerbiatta · 20/05/2015 11:11

Thank you all. I love that Howies one but I'm not sure i want to spend that much, it's just not the type of coat I wear very often.
Maybe a pack-a-mac is the way forward.

Although I'm still tempted by the mango one, it's not water proof but then i don't think we'd be out in the rain. I just don't know which size to order and because I'm ordering from Portugal i can't order 2 sizes and i won't be able to return....

OP posts:
BumbleNova · 20/05/2015 11:20

Mango usually run small - I would order a size up to what you would usually.

LaCerbiatta · 20/05/2015 11:34

Yes you're probably right, maybe i should just do it :)

Shonajay · 20/05/2015 15:07

They've got this in john Lewis, water resistant, phase eight down from 179 to 89. Only have sizes 10 and 18 left though. Clearance section

Does anyone have this parka?
Shonajay · 20/05/2015 15:09

Ooh or this one, reduced phase eight all sizes 79!

Shonajay · 20/05/2015 15:10

Olive one is also water resistant and machine washable.

LaCerbiatta · 20/05/2015 19:52

Thanks. I had seen those phase 8 ones. Just can't decide if they're a bit frumpy or not....
