If you've ever tried a paraben and silicone free shampoo, can you please tell me what make, would you recommend it or never touch it again?

I'm currently using Salcura shampoo, it's paraben and silicone free and helps my itchy dry scalp. My hair is shiny and feels great. I've been using paraben and silicone free shampoo for a few years now and it has made a difference to the condition of my hair. Nakd from Boots are good, also Body Shop Rainforest range.

I couldn't find it in the UK, but in France you can get a Timotei one which is absolutely brilliant. I bought one bottle to try it out, and haven't used anything else since (about....8 months ago now?)

petite I have fine straight hair, but loads of it so it appears thick if you know what I mean. A mixture of grey/blond highlights so that's why I thought I'd go for a nice conditioning one but it is far too heavy and my head looked like an oil slick. Might try the Pomegranite one but none of them really looked like they were that light Confused

We all use Avalon Organics, which I can pick up in Waitorse or Holland and Barrett. I get the lemon one as both my daughters are fair haired. Hair feels great after it is washed. The best thing is the different tones that you can see through my daughters' hair. I feel like I am seeing the true colour of their hair. The caramels and honey highlights you can see through their hair is what women are paying a lot of money trying to replicate. I do have my hair coloured so it's not so obvious on me, but I like the way my hair feels after washing/conditioning with Avalon. I also like how clean my shower screen stays. I know when my mum has been to stay as an icky residue of shower gel and shampoo sits on the shower screen.

I buy the 100% paraben/silicone free Timotei from Home Bargains or Savers. Cheap and effective.Smile

SlinkyB · 21/05/2015 13:08

The 0% Timotei one is on offer for £1 I noticed yesterday in a Lloyds Pharmacy.

RecoveringPerfectionist · 21/05/2015 16:18

I have tried several. Pureology has been fab for my coarse, thick hair.

Kewcumber · 21/05/2015 16:23

Liz Earle - hated it, thought it was the most expensive shampoo mistake I'd made... until I started using half the amount I was - probably not much more then 20p sized amount and it improved dramatically.

It's the sulphates I don;t like - dries my skin out something chronic this means I can wash my hair in the shower without worrying.

Not cheap though I might try some of the other suggestions.

I have fine hair.

expatinscotland · 21/05/2015 16:25

DD2 uses a bar one that's terrific.

SlinkyB · 21/05/2015 18:27

Kew I have fine hair too, and also find using less product helps. I only use a 20p size amount of conditioner, and only put it on from mid-way down my hair to tips (ie not on roots) which stops it going lank as fast as it normally does.

Nix01 · 21/05/2015 21:19

I use the Everpure coloured hair shampoo and conditioner by Loreal (pink bottles). It's incredible, my hair condition has improved dramatically.

MsMoppet · 21/05/2015 21:30

Dr Organics from Holland and Barratt is lovely. I have thick frizzy hair and the argan oil or coconut oil shampoo and conditioner are fab. Haven't used anything else for two years.

HoggleHoggle · 21/05/2015 21:37

Another vote for Neal's Yard, I use the rose one. The conditioner is lovely too.

Chillycamper · 21/05/2015 21:40

Timotei in Lidl £1

RawCoconutMacaroon · 21/05/2015 21:47

Dr.Organic (available in Holland and Barrett, and some of the range is on Amazon) do a excellent range of toiletries, all parabens and silicon and sls free. There are several varieties of shampoo/conditioner and all good, my current bottle is the Aragon oil one, smells fantastic.

May09Bump · 21/05/2015 21:53

Free and clear - american one on Amazon. Wouldn't use anything else on allergic / eczema DS! Non - greasy and leaves heavy shiny.

MimieD · 21/05/2015 21:56

Green People intensive repair shampoo and conditioner are great on my fine, coloured hair. Only shampoo I haven't replaced after one month usage....

ohmymimi · 21/05/2015 22:18

Thanks, Slinky and Chilly, time to stock up!

AppleYumYum · 22/05/2015 00:37

Anything John Masters, I'm using the honey hibiscus reconstructing shampoo and the lavender conditioner, love it but it's v expensive. I bought the 1035ml huge bottles on strawberry net so it's not so bad.

RonaldMcDonald · 22/05/2015 00:52

I had some Rusk stuff and I have to say it was horrible and my hair was in a dreadful state when I used it

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/05/2015 07:15

I love body shop rainforest range. My thick, course, frizzy hair is much tamer and softer but it takes a good few washes to start seeing the benefits

Plonkysaurus · 22/05/2015 07:21

Another vote for Happy Hair Days. I like the macadamia oil one best as my hair is very thick and prone to dryness. It smells gorgeous.

Pumpkinette · 22/05/2015 09:19

I use Bodyshop rainforest shampoo for coloured hair - I've also used the moisture one but didn't like it as much. It's paraben, silicone and Sulfate free.

It think it's really good and I've tried out quite a few alternatives. They do sample sizes for about £2.

mistymeanour · 22/05/2015 12:26

My DD uses A'KIn ones and really likes them, she uses Dr Organic (Holland and Barrett) sometimes too. When the kids were small we used the Jason ones - perfectly fine, especially the Lavender one.
